Edmond, with all due respect, but you've been talking about releasing a version of your own for quite some time now. So far, it's just been that though, talk. Not that I mind, but you keep claiming you haven't had time to "work on this release" or couldn't create a new build "at this moment". Truth be told, your contribution to this project has been little. And again, that's fine by me. After all, most of what I do is based on the hard work of others. But just don't tell us you're "willing to look into it" when I'm the other guy you've been talking to and I told you I wanted to wait with releasing a new build until it was a final one.

That being said, I've just upgraded my CS406 to DSM 3.1 1613. All seems to be going well so far, but just give me a week or so to ensure we don't end with another time-bug-fiasco. This will be the final release for the CS407, which means it will be that last one for the CS406 as well. Remember, you don't have to upgrade if you're happy with the current release.
I've also prepared a build for the CS406e. If anyone who owns such a device is willing to try it, please PM me. I won't release it before I've gotten confirmation that it actually works.

So, expect the links some time next week.

You don't need to "simulate" the device. You're not cross-compiling anything, just repackaging the firmware. So the only thing you need is a Linux distro and some basic applications.
You do realise I've already created the new firmware myself, right?

I have not noticed any problems with the new release. The system is stable with +7 days uptime, the time stays correct and everything seems to work just fine.
The only reason I haven't posted the links yet is because I wanted to release the version for the CS406e simultaneously. So far no one has offered to try that build though. So I might as well release the CS406 one now.

CS406 DSM 3.1 1613 (upgrade from DSM 2.1 or higher only)

CS406e DSM 3.1 1613 (upgrade from DSM 2.1 or higher only)
Please PM me...

You know the drill. Use at your own risk. Please backup your information before installing. But most of all, have fun with the new build!

Wow, what a nice thread, great work guys!

I have just posted some CS-406 Windows 7 transfer speed problems in another thread (computer to computer 70mb, computer to CS406 9-10mb only) and I am glad I found this thread while I was looking around (I know an upgrade won't fix my speed issues I guess, I am still excited about the possibility to get a new DSM).

I am now using DSM 2.0-0731. Would I go from that to CS406 DSM 2.1 0844 (link on first page of this thread) and then straight to DSM 3.1 1613? Is this installed via web front end (upgrade firmware), or using the shell as described in the first couple of pages of this thread?

I am actually not using any of the iTunes, photo, etc features, I use the CS406 as a simple file server for various backups. Would you do it in this case or just leave it as it is?
