Hi,
@lucky
you have to resize partitions, no other way.
Code: Select all
DS-106> df
Filesystem           1K-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
rootfs                 2450928    487912   1938116  21% /
/dev/root              2450928    487912   1938116  21% /
/tmp                     31292       300     30992   1% /tmp
/dev/hda3            477627796 112919352 364606044  24% /volume1

Hello,

Am I right that i have to take the following step to upgrade my 106j with DSM 2.1-0844 to the latest version of DSM:

- edit syno.conf
- install 2.2-0959
- edit syno.conf
- reboot
- edit syno.conf
- install 2.3-1139
- edit syno.conf
- reboot
- edit syno.conf
- install 3.1-1594
- edit syno.conf
- reboot

And how is the performance of 3.1 on a 106j?

With kind regardz...

With kind regards

Well, the release notes for DSM 3.1 on DS107 state that:
DSM 3.1 can only be applied to DiskStation with DSM 2.1 and onward.

so you should be able to upgrade from your current level.

There is no need to remove ipkg as it will be ignored by the upgrade.
However, it is possible that you may encounter an issue while upgrading because
'system partition is insufficient' or something like that.
In that case be prepared to backup all your data and reformat the NAS from scratch
(using the new DSM of course)

P.S. I suggest that you do read the release notes before to apply any upgrade

Hello maxxfi, May i conclude that i can upgrade directly from DSM 2.1-0844 to DSM 3.1-1594?
And how can i check if my system partition is large enough?

Hi,
And how can i check if my system partition is large enough?

use ssh or telnet to login as root.
Code: Select all
df

You should have more then 350MB available on hda1 respectively /.

Hello,
DSM 3.1 can only be applied to DiskStation with DSM 2.1 and onward. Download DSM 2.2-0942 at: Americas, Asia, Europe

I am wondering why synology points to a 2.2 version in there release notes?
Can i for sure directly upgrade from DSM 2.1-0844 to DSM3.1-1594 on my DS106J?

With df i see the following:

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 256666 209770 46896 82% /
/tmp 15104 200 14904 1% /tmp
/dev/hda3 480064756 102350696 377611660 21% /volume1

I don't think that enough diskspace, how can i change the disksize??

Hi,
you may try to reset to factory default. Backup all your data!
DSM Restore Defaults - Format the hard disk and restore to factory default settings
If this fail, remove disk from DS, put it in your pc and remove all partitions. Now you can begin from scratch.

Hi All,

I am a new from HK and read this post as usual. I have just upgraded to my DS-106j to 1605 version from 107 firmware but the synoinfo.conf show "read only" and can't be saved after edit, how can I make this file save again?

Thanks a lot

I'm runing DSM 2.3 on a DS209, and this is the output of df, there is no /dev/hda1. Is that ok, could I try to upgrade to DSM3.1 ?

/tmp 124.9M 852.0k 124.1M 1% /tmp

Hi,
this thread is about old DS-106, you have a DS209 and your root partition is 2,3GB. There is no problem to update to 3.1.
