Pls find below some first pricing for RACK systems from Polish distributor.
It's in PLN currency (Polish Zloty), but it's very easy to calculate EUR prices. 1 EUR is exactly 4 PLN today (1 USD = 2.87 PLN).

So far more expensive than RS810+ and RX410 => 1145 EUR net but of course much more power and higher capacity.

The RS2211 seems to be coming to the market soon, what about the DS2411+? Any new information about the release date for this device? I've heard someting about a release date connected to the Computex.

While peeking into DSM-3.1 code, searching for differences with 3.0, I noticed this
inside /etc/rc.network (script that initialize the network):

The price of DS2411+ MUST be below the price of DS1511+ and DX510 combo. That's what Synology has to achieve. It should be not so big problem. Looking at technology DS2411+ is nothing new. I think It will have very similar motherboard/CPU with more SATA ports and just 1 PSU instead of 2. All packed with the bigger box.

DS3611xs it's different story - new motherboard and new CPU.

If the DS1511+ and the DX510 are 10 bays altogether, then the DS2411+ should be more expensive, but Im new to Synology, so its just my guess.

Either way, the 12-bay diskstation is so big that I dont know where I would put it.

When will PCs and Macs come with ethernet 10GB?????

Im thinking maybe the DS3611+ will have Thunderbolt instead of eSata, since eSata wont be able to achieve 10GBs of the ethernet 10GB. If the DS3611+ comes with option for ethernet 10GB, then it would be stupid to connect it with eSata, since it will be a bottleneck. So maybe Thunderbolt is the solution... for the future.

According to Jekyll's post which has a link to a pdf outlining some of these new models, it looks like Synology will use infinband to connect the expansion units.

Rear pictures of the units also show the units have either an infiniband connection or a SAS connection.

The dual NIC ports could either be Gigabit or 10GBASE-T. However if they are only Gigabit then it wont be possible to reach the transfer speeds that Synology are quoting, given this either Synology are quoting internal transfer speeds between the expansion unit and the DiskStation, or the Dual NIC ports on the rear are in fact 10GBASE-T.


Time will tell, but it looks as if Synology are making a good attempt at an enterprise level product.

Very frankly - and while this is all great and represents an important market segment for them - what I think we really need is 10gbe on the DS1511+. It has a tremendous capability in terms of storage, but transfer speed at 125 MB/s is low compared to what can be done. We would have to pay a lot for the 12-bay enclosure just for the connector... A 5 (or really 6) bay device is perfect for me, but lets get the next gen connector going!!!

i dont think we will see 10gbe on devices with current Atom cpu imho.
for 10gbe you need pro raid controller or fast cpu. thecus 7700pro uses c2d cpu.
i would love to see 1511+ with 4 * 1gbe and overclocked Atom cpu
maybe that could give more than 200mb/s read speed...

compet_pl reported earlier on that the higher-end models (DS3611xs, RS3411xs) will be using Bromolow (Sandy Bridge) CPUs. Should be enough to support high-throughput.

Now if they'd only just announce and actually ship the things.

I wonder that caused such a delay in the new devices announcement. As the press release for CeBit says, "At CeBIT 2011 in Hannover, Germany, Synology® Inc. will showcase a series of new Synology DiskStation", so I expected that the devices would be officially announced during CeBit...
