The new Onkyo TX-NR708 network receiver works perfectly with my Synology DS109 with DSM3.0-1354. It plays MP3@320kbps, FLAC, OGG. Browsing with the Onkyo through maps located on the DS works fine. I use streaming from DS to the Onkyo and also using the Onkyo as a Media Renderer in AudioStation. And the sound is superb (thanks to the Onkyo) :) All connected by Gigabit.
NAS: Synology DS109, Samsung HD103SJ (1TB), DSM3.0-1354
Backup: Intenso MemoryStation 500GB (2.5" USB)
Apps in use: FileStation, MediaServer, PhotoStation, DownloadStation, AudioStation, Backup & Restore, SABnzbd+ 0.5.4
Network: D-Link DIR-655 (rev.A3), Onkyo TX-NR708 network receiver, Win7 Media Center, 2x Win7 laptop, XP laptop, XP desktop
Status: stable and fast

Hi, I have the Onkyo TX-NR808, and just can't get the Onkyo to see the Synology. Are you able to run me through your setup please?

I have my Synology DS411J running into a router then 100BaseT directly to the Onkyo Amp. Before using the Synology, I ran a TVMOBiLi server directly from my mac connected to the router which worked fine. I have tried running the iTunes Server running, media server and audio station to no avail.

I just want the Onkyo to have access to the files where I'll pick and choose from the amp. Is it that difficult to setup?

I am currently streaming video to my PS3 through the Synology which works perfectly...

Any help would be great.

Still stuck, wondering whether the EXT3 file system of the DS is a problem. Onkyo state FAT16 & FAT32 only.

Hi,

Please make sure:

1. DLNA/UPnP server under Control Panel/Media Server has been enabled
2. the IP address of the Onkyo is in the same range as the NAS
3. the MAC address of the Onkyo is in the Allowed List in the FW of your router
4. after the message "initializing now..." the display should show "Server" and "<name_of_server>"
5. with up/down arrow on remote you can select another server (if available)
6. in AudioStation, choose under "Media Render" the Onkyo

The file system ext3/4 is not the problem, when used with an ethernet connection. Only when connecting an USB drive to the Onkyo it should be formatted FAT32.

Hope one of these hints can help you :)

Thank heaps for the tips DualCore.

I've looked at your first three steps, and modified the Onkyo's IP address to static and within the range of my home network even though the DHCP appeared to be putting it in the right slot.

Router
IP Address 192.168.1.254 WORKING
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

NAS (Static) WORKING
IP Address 192.168.1.4
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

PS3 (Static) WORKING
IP Address 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Onkyo (Static) NOT WORKING
IP Address 192.168.1.15
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Router sees the Onkyo and I placed the MAC in the allowed section, which didn't help. I turned off the FW filters to allow all and it didn't work either.

DLNA/UPnP server in the Media Server has been enabled and itunes server is also running.

Not sure what else to do...

Hi,

I looked in my router settings and saw that I created a application rule for DLNA in the firewall section. I opened ports 50001 - 50002, with trigger port 1900.

Hope it will help you.

Plays music like it was made for it. Had to increase the buffersize to >64Kb for it to play all tracks. Otherwise it would skip some.

Hi, just wondering what you mean with the 'Increase the buffersize' ? Where did you configure this? Thanks ! :D

DMA: Dune HD TV-101, version 110923_1710 (latest stable to date, beta available not tested)
Synology: DS-211j, firmware DSM 3.2-1955

Video playback works well, no problems seen with MKV, MP4 or AVI from SD to 1080p - only internal subs in MKV due to limitation in DNLA. Some problems that deleted files seem to be shown with DLNA/UPnP browsing even though they no longer exist since >1h.

Audio seems to work too but with some limitations. Only search by folder works well. If I try search by artist or artist/album it comes up empty. I think it's a shortcoming in the Dune since my media player in the TV handles it all correctly.

Pictures shown correctly and lightning fast.

Not sure if this is the place but the Dune also connects well via "proper" networking. I'm using NFS and it gives access to external subtitles as well as the possibility to edit filenames and even deleting files via the network.

HiMedia 910a works great with DS212 through DLNA, even external subtitle works.
