iSCSI & VMFS after power loss

everytime my battery backup has an issue, and the DS 1010+ goes down - it seems that ESX doesn't recognize the iSCSI LUN anymore. Sometimes when I readd it back to the vSphere cluster it all looks good to all of the hosts, othertimes it will add to a few host fine, but the others what format the LUN... Thoughts?

let me just get you right here.

a) Your NAS device hosting an iscsi target goes dead
b) When your iscsi target is ready again, your VMH's does not automatically detect it?

If thats your constallation - then i will ask you, if your vmh will re-find the datastore if you rescan the HBA storage adapter for the specific target?

Have you CHAP enabled?

I ma having a similar problem where if either the ESX server of the DS 1010+ are rebooted, the ESX host will not reconnect to the ISCSI LUNS. I then have to manually reconnect it. This was never a problem until I upgraded DSM to version 3.

Any thoughts?

I do not have CHAP enabled. I do multiple rescans of HBA and VMFS volumes. I am currently working with support on the issue. Right now after downgrading the iSCSI to IET (from LIO per patch from support), it seemed to work through reboots, but then started failing. I really do not understand as I have a Gentoo Linux box running kernel 2.6.36 with iscsitarget 1.4.20.2 that works flawlessly! I have had to move all of my production VMs over to it vs the DS1010+ (and the 1010+ is on the VMWare HCL!).

Hi, Please note that synology ONLY have NAS support (meaning NFS) and not ISCSI support

Unfoutnably there seem to be a bug in the NFS (that are reported to be fixed, however the fix dosent seems to be public).

Thanks for making aware on these threads - its quite interesting that Synology iscsi is not officially supported. I use it though, but im more comfortable with NFS, besides from the "bug".
