WDIDLE3: Boot CDs Don't Detect CD-ROM

Postby glc650 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 9:29 am

Hi,

I've tried several boot CDs but none of them seem to detect my CD-Rom. I tired a couple of them with my laptop and the CD-Rom is detected but that doesn't help me since I have no way to hook the drive to my laptop. I've got a Gateway PC with SATA (I think this might be the problem) DVD burner. Anything else I can do (besides buying any more hardware)?

NOTE: I also tried with a couple of fdoem ISOs that already have WDIDLE3 on it.

But what has a Synology NAS to do with this issue?
DS-411 (DSM 4.2-3202) w/ 2x WD10EFRX + 1x HD154UI
DS-106j (DSM 3.0-1357), PATA-to-SATA adapter, 2.5" HM250HI

Sorry it was late when I posted this. I was trying to boot do DOS with CD drive support so I could use wdidle3 on my WD drives before installing them in my 1511+. I was hoping someone had found a working boot CD (or figured out how to modify one) for SATA optical drives. Anyway, it's a moot point now as I finally found a working link for the HP usb device format tool and was able to create a boot disk with CF memory + mini USB memory reader.

Thanks,

Most boot CD's use ATAPI miniport drivers for CDROM's which cannot 'see' SATA CD ROMS.
