How to prevent @eaDir everywhere

After some effort going around in this forum, I am still not able to prevent the synology to create @eaDir everywhere.
Up to now, I have done the following
- Disabled all UPnP / itunes / Web stuff. Only File Station and Audio station are enabled. I use twonky as my Upnp server.
- Disabled S66synoindexd, S77synomkthumbd, S88synomkflvd (exit 0; at start of each file)
- Changed classic shared name (Movies instead of Video, etc)
- Removed all @eaDir with the following command:
find /volume1 -type d -name @eaDir -exec rm -rf \"{}\" \;

And after some days, there are still back!
I dont know which part of the synology is creating them because in previous firmware, it was sufficient to stop S66 and S77. No more in the 722.

Looks like these @eadir are created only if using AFP. Using SMB or NFS instead and they never appear.

But I still really don't know why AFP needs that and how to prevent it to create that crap...!

They are also appearing when using UPnP or photostation.
These directories stores thumbnails for synology sytem. The S77synomkthumbd service can be stopped to prevent these creation if I am not wrong.

I've exactly the same problem! I dont use PhotoStation (any more) but do use UPnP.

I don't see the @eaDir directory while browsing in windows. Only the web-part shows this directory (image software, showing the full content of a folder).
Is there any possibility to disable, or really hide this folder?

What part of the Synology software is responsible for creating this folder?

I'd like to delete all these @eaDir folders, but just in the music folder. I'm using Zina, which works okay, but it displays a (blank) @eaDir as an album for every artist. Very annoying.

Any help on deleting them and keeping them out of just that folder???

I believe they're used to store metadata for your webapps, ie. photostation. You can try making them not readable or executable by 'Others' maybe that would work

thanks pomprocker. Unfortunately, that just made zina mad. got error messages on the artist page after changing the permissions.

I've been trying to find a way that zina will just ignore that folder, but nothing yet. isn't there a line or exception we can put in somewhere?

in Zina settings there is: "Dirs with this prefix are not displayed:"

I simply put in "@" and no more @eaDir showing up as an album!

good call because i'm pretty sure those directories are needed for some webapps!

Yes they are needed to display thumbnail in photostation and in Upnp when browsing photo. Otherwise, you can stop the service that makes them (the S77mkthumb) if you don't need these thumbnails, as described in my first post.

It is a shame Synology hasn't yet addressed this issue in the latest firmware releases. Surely these dirs can be stored elsewhere on the NAS rather than as Sub Dirs, it makes the Synology NAS problematic as a true media server when these sub dirs show up. Please Synology can we have this corrected in 3.1?

Further to my last post if Synology cannot move the sub dirs they should look to use the standard Unix convention for "hidden" file and directory names -- starting them with a "." -- then all would be good. Not sure why they use an '@'.

Is anyone from synology aware or looking at this problem or do i need to create a ticket to get someone to look at it?
Since i backup my folders to servers outside of my house, this "feature" creates insane ammounts of extra traffic and files that i dont need, i never had the photo station enabled, so i see no reason for the files to be there.

My photo folder contains 4115 files 72 folders holding 5.6GB data that are "real" files, but after synology have been around the folder it now contains 23059 files, 3886 folders totaling 6.7GB data.

Also i see lots of different treads around the forum conserning these folders, but there never seems to be any synology people answering them.

First delete all @eaDir entries on for example the first mounted harddisc (/volume1)... don't worry about the "warnings/errors":

find /volume1 -name "@eaDir" -exec rm -rf {} \;

Stop the thumb service from creating @eaDir entries:

/usr/syno/bin/synomkthumb -stop

And remove the service from starting up again when rebooting:

rm /usr/syno/etc.defaults/rc.d/S77synomkthumbd.sh

Tested it on my bootstrapped DS211j.
