There seems to be a difference regarding the applied models.
DS-212 / DSM 4.1-2636 / 2 x Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT1 2TB (Non-Raid) / Squeezebox Server 7.7.2 (Synology Package) / 2 x Squeezebox Classic + 1 x Boom

I've applied the patch to my two HD204UI installed in my ds211j...

Pustul, do you experiencing spin_up_time failures with your disks described here? If not, could you tell me how is your NAS booting different then mine?

Thanks,

Hi,
I am having de same problems with my DS210j with 2 x 2TB Samsung (HD204UI).
I am using the DSM Version: DSM 3.0-1354 and upddate the firmware of both disk, but I get the message o spin_up_time error on the SMART log. I tried to dismount the volume and remount but the message persist the difference is that there is no error now, but the log says that the error happens in the past. I run the Samnsung ES test and everything is ok on the disk. Someone knows if is it ok? How can I clean the message in the SAMRT control. Another question: the disk was formated by ds210j using the standard procedure. Someone knows if I need to reformat it using the samnsug 4k format in the samsung website?

Yea my 211j spins them up from sleep just fine. Though it is a pain waiting for them to spin up, so I might just turn off sleep mode.

Ok, Im updating all my disks now
Im am getting "Download completed successfully (SN : XXXX...)
Do I understand everything right, when you mean cold boot.
I should crash the system by hitting the on/off on the PSU and not press the normal power off button after the firmware message?

I just bought two of these drives for in my DS411_ :(

Is it possible to flash the new firmware by placing the drives in external USB drive? I don't want to completely open up the computer to do this.

When trying to use the iso-image with freedos from HarryPotter I encounter an error message when choosing "1) install to harddisk using FreeDos" and I have no drives available besides A: which I believe to be a ram drive - anyone encountered this problem?
Any other alternatives to apply the firmware patch from Samsung?

You can use unetbootin (or package in Debian/Ubuntu, ...), select FreeDOS and install it on USB flash disk. Then mount installed ubinit file (it is just an floppy image) in the flash disk root and copy .exe patch into it. When you boot from the flash disk, patch will be right in the current directory (with command.com, etc.) ;)

Read my post about IDE emulation for the SATA drive in the BIOS.

Samsung HD204ui F4EG firmware problem

Postby YEHBABY » Fri Dec 24, 2010 2:11 pm

There is a problem with the Samsung HD204UI hard drive. In certain cases you can lose data when its writing. This has been discussed on other forums across the web for over a week, but I have not seen any mention here so thought I'd better give people a heads up (sorry if it has already been discussed).

This is the forum I first discovered it in http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartm ... GBadBlocks

This is the samsung website where you can update your firmware
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/ ... msg_id=386

When you update keep track of what disks you have updated as the firmware number remains unchanged.

So the 64K question is how do we update drives in a raid on the 1010+ when there is no way {other than installing them on another device} to boot to the update filefrom a bootable media.....? :(

I'm the owner of a Syno DS411j since this weekend, and got a Samsung HD204UI F4EG as a present with it.
It's all still in the box.

Now is it safe for me to go ahead and buy 3 more of these disks, in order to set up a raid5 system ?
I'm not looking forward to an extra few hours of work to get them right and compatible with the NAS.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
