From the user's point of view, the only difference between DS410 and DS411+ is CPU and memory. I'm not sure, however, if there is any difference in low-level software based on this.

WD30EZRSDTL, Western Digital's wonderful 3TB drive is incompatible with the latest firmware. Tried it tonight and am only able to access the first 700GB. I'm really hoping for a quick upgrade, otherwise I'll be changing to another NAS soon.

Hey avuton, what synology model do u have?

Maybe the gpt situation is different for non x86 units.

I have the DS108j, yes, this is a non-x86 unit; PPC iirc.

Actually, found out I'm in the clear to wait a month or two. Something should be working by that time, I hope.

By the way - Filed a ticket, they have new 3TB hard drives inbound to begin the compatibility process. Looking forward to it, personally.

In case you missed it, it was confirmed that the DS108j doesn't support GPT :(

Probably the one using 16 bits CPU wouldn't be able to use these new > 2 Tb drives?

Let's wait for them to get release massively to get the answer

That's no fun at all. Why wait when we can experiment?

I am about to pull the trigger on a NAS, either a Synology 1010, QNAP 559, or a ReadyNAS Ultra 6. Most likely the Synology.

The only thing holding me back is the 3TB question. When I buy the NAS, I'll be getting at least one WD30EZRS to go with it. Step 1 will be to see if I can make it work, before ordering the rest of the drives.

I'd do it today, but I fixed one of the problems with my existing storage array that was driving me to upgrade, so that project has become slightly less urgent.

The problem with testing is that the wd 3 tb sata isn't really out (at least here in Europe - FR/BE) and will still be pretty expensive when released.

Will Ds411+ support 3TB disks ?

Postby Spetter » Thu Nov 18, 2010 2:50 pm

Will DS411+ support 3TB harddrives ? Or any other NAS from Synology ?

I just wonder since there 3TB harddrive is begining to reach the market.
4x3TB instead of 4x2TB for DS411 or 5x3TB instead of 4x2TB for ds1010/1011

Or is 2TB the limit due to hardware issue with NAS ?
