Don't see Itunes server in iTunes! [merged thread]

Postby RFT72 » Fri Apr 02, 2010 3:59 pm

I am trying to set up the Itunes facility on my DS210j. Have followed all the instructions. However, in Itunes, the Home Sharing Icon is not there and there is no sign of my DS. Have been hunting around for a solution for a while now and got nowhere. I have reformatted my router to open ports 3689 and 5353 but still no sign. In Itunes I have 'Look for shared libraries' ticked. In DS Manager i have the itunes app running.

I am not anywhere near being a tech expert so any instructions need to be in English - not tech speak please!!!!!

Can anyone help as it driving me nuts . . . . . . . . . . :?

Many thanks in advance.

I have reformatted my router to open ports 3689 and 5353

There is a router between the pc and the DS ?

Some stuff (Windows shares, iTunes server ..), will only work if on the same network. So only hub and switch between.
How is everything connected ?

Don't see Itunes server in iTunes!

Postby mjarntz » Sun Jul 25, 2010 11:32 am

Hello,

I have turned the iTunes server on on my Synology 209II. But when I start my iTunes I don't see the server on the left side.
I have placed also three mp3 songs in the share on the Synology. But still no luck.

I have a iMac with Snow Leopard version 10.6.4. I also have the latest iTunes 9.2.1

Thanks,

Mark

It may be a problem with the Mac built in firewall.

The firewall on the iMac is turned off. But that didn't help either.

What router are you using? For linksys wrt610n this is a common problem documented on the forum.

Not sure if this applies to the OSX version of iTunes abut you have you gone into preferences/Sharing and enabled "Look for shared libraries".

No share in iTunes

Postby notmetoo » Sat Sep 25, 2010 8:23 am

Hi folks,

Hoping for a little direction here. I have enabled the iTunes server on a DS210j. When I run iTunes, it doesn't see it as a share.

I have all firewalls off (windows and modem), and antivirus off. Do I need to forward any ports or anything?

iTunes has the "look for shared drives" checked.

Thanks in advance.

more info is required to give you a better answer I assume your running it on a lan<(same ip base lan)>; in this case normally the Firewall is the issue switch it off temporally> indexing can take a few mins so be patient.

Good luck

itunes not showing shared folder

Postby walkern » Sat Oct 16, 2010 2:35 pm

Hello,
I have upnp and itunes enabled and can access my shared music folder in itunes by manually entering the unc path, but it refuses to give me a 'shared' folder, which is what I was expecting following the manual and the online tutorial.

I can stream it onto my ipod via the ds app, assuming that is using the itunes server.

Thanks for any help.

Shared Libraries not blocked by Parental Controls and Look for shared libraries on in the iTunes Sharing tab?

The iTunes server is enabled in the iTunes Control Panel on your NAS?

FWIW, working find for me, same version of iTunes (but on OSX) on same version DSM on my DS409slim.

Do you have Audio Station enabled as well?

I have found that if Audio Station is enabled, then iTunes Sharing will not work. As soon as I disable Audio Station, then my iTunes share shows up immediately. The second I enable Audio Station again, my iTunes share disappears.

I have a open ticket with Synology regarding this.
