Type your dns url (toto.noip.com)
But for the account, you can use the admin account of your NAS.
You should create an another user account for this.

I'm also having a lot of trouble getting this app to work. I'm fairly experienced in this kinda thing, but this baffles me...

Everything is approachable from the outside, all other apps work. Only this audio app does not. I'm using the beta (3.0). All ports on the router are forwarded. Even forwarded '80' to be sure. But no...

Can this have something to do with the Beta version on the NAS?

Followed every other hint on the previous posts... nothing...

Anyone have any thoughts 'bout this?

TIA!

Hi Baltasar:
  • Make sure you enabled Audio Station.
  • If you port-forward from extern port 8000 to the managment port 5000,
you should add the hostname like "xxx.no-ip.com:8000" to access DiskStation

Hi Allen,

Audio Station is enabled! ;)

I''ve tried this with and without the port forwarding. With forwarding I put an ':80' or ':5000' after the ip adres.

I've tried it without the :port, i've tried putting http:// in front of it. I've tried the domain naam i'm reachable under. Tried that with and without the :port

I'm kinda outta ideas at the moment.

Thanks for your time.

Are you sure you're not doin' something wrong with your port forwarding?

+ 1 for wondering where the updated DS audio app has gone!
That multitasking support is much wanted..

Nothing fancy. All i did was this:
1. Used Virtual Servers in my router to forward 5003 to my HTTP port on my DS (5000). This is just cuz I didn't want 5000 to be open to the outside. It's a well known port..
(note. DSaudio can't be used with https!)
2. Launched DSaudio, entered my IP:PORT(5003), username and password. Voila, everything works just great :)

Once in a while I get a connection error message, but this is solved by just trying to login once or twice again :)

Have do you have it set up?

Can you expand on what you did? My router (Netgear WNR3500v2) does not have virtual servers function. I port forwarded my DiskStation IP to port 5000. Does that do the same thing? Do I do this in the router or the DiskStation "Router" menu? Basically, I'd like you to expand on what you did, explaining what you did in both Diskstation and your router. Thanks.

Another thing that sounds stupid but might work is force-quitting the DSPhoto App and restarting it. Worked for me.

I get the same error. I can connect to ANY WiFi (at work, school etc., not just my own) network and access the music, however i get "Network not available right now" whenever I try to use the 3G Network.

I am using a Static IP and ordinary DNS, so the problem is definitely not DDNS.

My guess is that in order to get the app approved by apple, Synology has had to limit the program to only run with WiFi networks, as the Tele-companies (who essentially have as much control over the app-store as apple does) don't want to bother streaming large amounts of data all the time. It has some similarities to the first Skype App, which would also only call people when connected to WiFi because of the Tele-industry.

The only thing that makes me doubt is the strange and not very helpful error message.

That ain't right, I have used DS audio on 3G network for as long as it has been available. If you can connect to your DS from any WiFi network I could think that your 3G service provider might have done something on there part. Have you tried using another phone with another provider? Just a thought..might be way off track here ;)
But DS audio is not limited to WiFi that's for sure :)

I'm having the same problem here, and I understand port forwarding, etc, and am certain I have all of that setup correctly.

When I enter my 192.x.x.x info from home while on my home wifi, I gain access. When I try to use my dyndns address, however (i.e. blahblahblah.dyndns.org), I get that "network is not available now" error. Mind you, this is all from home, on my wifi.

When trying the same thing with DS Photo+, I can get in with my 192.x.x.x address, but when using the dyndns address, I get this error: "Failed to connect to the DiskStation. Please check the network connection or the IP address of your Diskstation."

When disabling wifi in my iPhone, using the 192.x.x.x obviously doesn't work, since I'm not "local" as far as my network is concerned.

Would love to get this working so I can access my music collection remotely, which is half the reason I purchased this box in the first place.

As I see it many people seem to have a dyndns account. Try using your external ip instead.
DYNDNS should work, just troubleshooing :)

Well that was a simple (yet obviously brilliant) suggestion. Using my actual ip address, I can get it to work.

Now, dyndns is currently working for me for other tasks (i.e. accessing AudioStation via PC), so is there something with the DS Audio iPhone app that's causing an issue when going through dyndns???

Could be. I'm using my own DNS(not DYNDNS) and it works just fine. So i guess you could buy a dns and try it out. It's so cheap it's almost free ;)
Glad it works for you though! :)

Can you elaborate on "your own DNS?" You mean some other hardware or service? How much are we talking here? Any links?
