I just installed 4 X 2Tb WD20EARS-00S8B1 in Raid5 in a new DS410 and everything went fine.

I'm a little worried about the SMART cycle count which is already at 4000+ after one day but from what I read it should not make my drive fail, unless I'm mistaken.

The transfer speed seems OK. I tested writing a 25Gb file and it's about 20% faster than my old DS409 with 4X WD1001FALS-00J7.

Hey, I was just wondering how your setup has been? I just finished creating my Array, I went with using SHR because of future disc growth with larger drives. I am interested to see how other peoples setups as close to mine are doing.

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm looking to by 2 x 2TB drives for my DS210J. From reading the forums, it seems that this is not a straightforward decision as many drives are affected by one issue or another. There are plenty of members reporting what disks they have bought and successfully installed but I have no idea how they got on with them after 6, 9, 12+ months of usage. Can some DS210J owners please share there experiences with me? I just want to purchase some decent reliable disks and get on with using my NAS device.

Thanks in advance!

The 4 Samsungs did well for about 4 years of continuous service in my CS-406. After that, one began to fail, indicated by SMART. As storage 4* 300GB in RAID-5: 880GB) was getting in short supply, those 4 were replaced by two 1GB WD EARS drives in RAID-1, upping capacity to 1GB and eliminating backup issues. Two 300GB Samsungs are now being used in my workstation, the other two donated to Alfredo for his work on porting new firmware to the CS406.
The WDs have been on 7*24 for about 2 months now, and are performing well.

Anyone know if the Western Digital RE4 WD1503FYYS 1.5TB is compatible? It's not listed on the Wiki as being yes/no.

I am planning to buy WD20EARS for my DS209. Please provide your inputs on this drive regarding the compatibility or any other issues. I see this drive listed on Synology compatibility list. Do you recommend any other 2TB drive best suits 209? Appreciate any inputs. Thanks.

Samsung HD204UI 2TB - the new F4EG series with 3x 667GB plat

Postby compet_pl » Sun Sep 05, 2010 10:55 pm

As you probably know, there is the new Samsung F4EG (eco green) HDD series with 667GB platters available.

I'm interested in HD204UI 2TB 3-platters model very much. It looks it can be more silent and more cool then not so silent previous F3 model - HD203WI.
When can we expect Synology to test this HDD and put it to the compatibility list?
(maybe they are testing it already... :) )

I have 5x HD203WI RAID5 in my DS1010+ now. I want to expand it by buying DX510 and put the new HD204UI inside. What is your idea, can I have any problems with mixing HD203WI and HD204UI together? I know, the best way is to have all disks these same, but this time it's direct successor of the previous model.

Thanks a lot in advance for any response

Hi , I just got hold of my Synology and I am very happy with it so far.

Just to confirm, I am using a single:

Samsung HD204UI 2TB - the new F4EG series with 3x 667GB platters

Currently in my DS209 and it works perfectly. So far I've transferred about 700GB of data and it has remained at 28 degrees C (29 max) and very quiet.
Hibernation works fine.
It worked out of the box with DSM 2.3 and I've since updated to the DSM 3.0 Beta and it's working well in that.
I will be looking to buy another F4EG in the near future to either mirror or act as additional storage.

All the best

I wasn't able to figure out an order in the user reported drive wiki, so I report here. I just installed a new system, a DS710plus, with a DSM 3.0-1372 on it. The drives are Two Western Digital RE4-GP with 1.5TB (WD1502FYPS-02W3B) each in a Hybrid Raid1 Configuration. It installed well, and the Hibernate Drive seems to be working as well. Meaning, there is no excess load cycle count. In the order of 3 in the past 8 hours, with me occasionally working with it.

Akaz,

Did you manage to buy/install HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642? Any one have any luck with these in a synology product?

I have a DS211. I'd like these drives for the 64M cache.

Thanks,
Chris

I am considering the DS1511+ with the new Hitachi Ultrastar 3TB drives:

Typically - how long is the time between when the HDD becomes available to the time that Synology tests it?
Thanks
