Low Image Resolution using DLNA

Postby NoWayOut » Thu May 13, 2010 7:05 pm

Hi,

i have some trouble watching my jpeg images on my LG 42SL8500 and Blu Ray Player BD390 with LAN and DLNA.
I am using the DS209+II running FW DSM 2.3-1118.

Connecting to the DLNA Server works well, i can see the Synology DLNA Server and connect to it.
But when showing the images they come up with a very low resolution, although the original file resolution is 8MP or more. It looks more like zoomed thumbnails, i cannot show the resolution unfortunately.

Is there any possibility to change the resolution which is offered by the DS?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Some Synology Disk Station with some HDDs with a lot of memory and a few changes in some OS files.

Sorry to bump this but I too have this problem via a WD TV LIve. When leaving the option to display original size, the resulting jpeg appears much like a 320*480 image. I have to select fit to screen which thus causes pixilization. Does the media server downgrade jpeg resolutions?

Not it shouldn't, make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your NAS and that the option now called "Transmit low resolution images instead of the original images" is not enabled. This used to be called something else on older firmwares that made people think they needed it for thumbnails but all it did was downgrade image quality to make browsing images faster.

Hi, thanks but this does not work. It makes no difference to the size.

Contact Synology tech support directly because I cant think of a reason why this would be happening unless its a bug in the server or the media player.

The only other thing you can try is running a re-index.

I had the same issue when I first installed the WD tv Live, I solved it by changing the video settings on the WD TV Live. Go to the video settings, video out and change it to the appropriate output. For example if output is set to Composite (factory standard), you will have bad resolution. I have set mine to HDMI then to auto resolution, I get now full 720p resolution.
