Canon iP5300 worked before upgrading to DSM 2.1-0839. See thread (which is locked)
viewtopic.php?f=134&t=14385
Now it stops after printing out half a page.
I thought it was due to the reason I tested out windows 7, but when the problem still persists when printing out from Ubuntu I realized it was caused by NAS DS207+ after it was upgraded to DSM 2.1-0839
Synology DS207+, Synology DS411j and Synology DS712+

Successfully got my Macbook to use my HP deskjet F380 through my Synology NAS DS-101j

The Hardwares
My Macbook = OSX 10.6.1, 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM
My NAS = Synology DS-101J. Firmware: DSM 2.0-0731
Connection = Macbook and NAS connected via LAN. HP Deskjet F380 connected to my NAS via usb

The Drivers

Cannot use the official HP driver. Need to use the HPIJS suite from the Linux foundation. See full details here: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
1. install HPIJS
2. install Ghostscript for Mac OS X
3. install Foomatic-RIP

Printer Configuration
Then, add printer using System Preference > Printer & Fax:
1. Type = LPD
2. IP = the IP address of your NAS
3. queue name = "usbprinter"
4. driver = select "use specific driver", then choose "HP Deskjet F300 Foomatic/hpijs" from the pick-list

Note: pls pardon me for my translation on the field names mentioned above. I am using a non-English GUI.

I have tested the HP LaserJet 1320 & HP DeskJet 990c with the DS-109 f/w DSM 2.3-1141 under WinXP/MCE, Vista32, Vista64, Mac OSX (10.5 & 10.6) and in all cases they work beautifully. Windows installations were done both by using the Synology Assistant and manually adding through the WinPrint Wizard.

Apple Laserwriter Select 360, strictly not a USB printer per se, but this old workhorse works:

- on a DS 110+, firmware DSM 2.3-1157
- through Eminent Parallel to USB Cable (called: EM1018 USB to Parallel Converter High Performance; it has a Prolific DL 2305 chipset)
- with the little dipswitch at the back of the LW 360 set to setting 6 (Normal protocol, Postscript interpreter)

- tested on Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 10.6.3, driver is 'normal' Apple provided LW 360 driver v. 2013.112
- don't forget to specify the proper print que in the add printer dialog box when you install the printer on the Mac. Without it is does not work, I found. My que name was 'usbprinter' and I found it under the Windows install instructions on the DS Help pages. (It also says 'usbprinter' under USB Printer name on your DS).

Cheers,

Mark

HP OfficeJet 6110

Postby jamahan » Sat Mar 05, 2011 9:26 pm

I have tested my HP OfficeJet 6110 MFP Printer with my DS 211 and it is connected fine.

Printer Network environment:
Printer: In the Printer Network environment the printer function is perfect .

MFP Printer environment:
Printer: In the MFP Printer environment, the printer is only functional while attached, due to design error in the DSM 3.1 1594.
Scan: In the MFP Printer environment the MFP Scan functionality, combined with the Assistant Icon Menu, is perfect.
Fax: I have not tested the Fax function.

Re: Compatible USB Printers

Postby daemoniscinxi » Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:52 am

Has anyone had any success getting the Canon Pixma MP160 to work properly?

I am using the DS211j running DSM 3.1. I followed the instructions in the help documents and the synology drive is able to recognize the printer in the external devices window, but the Synology Assistant on my computer does not list the printer when I select "Add Printer".

Here is my network setup:
DS211j - DSM 3.1
Canon Pixma MP160
Cisco E3000 router
Windows 7 Enterprise with default WORKGROUP

Thanks!

Tested with the following client OS: XP SP3, Vista Enterprise SP2

Have not yet tested the scan function, but will do so shortly.

Keep up the great work!

Best regards
