DS210+ - & Barracuda "loads" a lot

Dear all,

I have had my DS210+ for 1 week now and have installed 2x Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS 2 TB in RADI 1, which actually works all right -except for the fact that when I open a folder on the Hard drives loads A LOT which is causing noise from it. Furthermore it also is quite slow when opening a folder as there often goes up to 30 sec before the contents is being showed - during this time I can hear that hard-drive working and working.

Is there something wrong with the hard drives or is there something that I have to setup otherwise?

There was a case on the Seagate forum where a user updated the firmware on the disks which resolved the clicking sound. Maybe you can give this a try but make sure you backup all data before attempting this. You can download the firmware here: http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/s ... 915&Hilite

Thank you for your reply - I will try the firmware update.

However, it seems to be impossible to update the firmware since I'm using a iMac and running the disk on a Synology Diskstation, as the update needs a MS-DOS based shell in order to work.

Do you know a way to work around this?

I'm afraid the method to update the firmware requires Windows O/S.
