Shared Folders

Postby spookyelectric » Sat Jul 17, 2010 5:51 pm

Hi

I have a Synology DS209 and I am trying to create a shared folder so a user can login via FTP and only see that specific folder.

When I try and create the shared folder I noticed the following in the instructions on the right hand side

To create a new shared folder
Click Create.
Enter the shared folder name and description.
Select the volume where the shared folder will be created*.

I cannot see anywhere to select the shared volume will be created.

Any ideas or is there an alternative way to do this

Thanks

Andy

Hi,

You have 'one' logical volume, in case your DS209 is configured with a RAID1 mirror set of two hard disks. Just create a new shared folder and it will be created on your disk array. Create the new user for the FTP access and give it access to this share.
DS107 DSM 3.1-1636; 1x WD10EADS GP; IP-cameras Panasonic BL-C1 and BL-C101; APC Back-UPS ES 700; USB disk for data backup;
DS209 DSM 3.1-1594; 2x WD15EADS GP 1500.299.234.816 bytes SATA II 32 MB cache in RAID 1; American Power Conversion RS 800; two USB disks for data backup; Synology Remote and Creative SB Connect; Netgear GS105 Gigabit Ethernet Switch; aLaptop, iMac, uPC; a common modem/router/firewall; a dose of common sense ;)

Thanks for the reply

So if there is already a folder on the Diskstation I cannot point to that? you have to create a new one?

Once the folder is created, select the folder and click “privileges setup”.

You may also want to check out the following DSM page;
File Sharing >> FTP >> Security Settings >> Change the selected users' root to user home
DS-1010+ / DSM 4.2-3202 / 5 x Hitachi HDS722020ALA330
DS-207+ / DSM 3.1-1636 / 2 x Hitachi HDS722020ALA330
