Yep, can't see a reason why it shuld not :)
Unless there's something wicked going on in your router :/

If you manage to reach a 192.168.*.* address from your mobile phone without any vpn settings, that would be wicked

you have to point your iphone to the wan ip on your connection and configure your router (or set up a dynamic dns account if your ip address isn't static)

I never register to forums, but actually took the time to register to this forum because I was having issues getting DS Audio app to work. I have now solved the problem and want to share my knowledge. Mostly because the DS Audio app had little help in the app (like an example of what you should type in) and the answers on the forum seemed insufficient. So hope this helps.

1. Forward the ports on your router for your diskstation. Synology has great documentation on accomplishing this.
2. Register with DDNS service. Paid $6 for a year with NO-IP with a promo coupon. With free account you have to log-in at random intervals.
*Your external ip is what is registered with DDNS service, which in all reality will point to your router. If ports are not forwarded then your router config page will show up when you browse to your ddns.host.domain. If your typing in 192.168.X.X and your on 3G then your just pissing in the wind because your pointing to your internal address. On your HOME wifi the internal address will work for the DS Audio app.
3. THIS IS THE ONE THAT KILLED ME FOR A FEW DAYS... "Network not available... bla bla bla". What the hell does that mean? I realized thru trial and error that http:// was not needed in front the the network location.
So for your ddns redirect type example: joesregistedddnshost.no-ip.com:5000
On your local network you would type example: 192.168.1.100:5000
4.Make sure the user you are logging in with has permissions to use the audio program on the synology server.
5.I've read that if your setup for https that it wont work... never tried it so dont know.

Joe

Love the app - a very solid value-add for my Syno NAS :) I had a few enhancement requests:

1) HTTPS support (seems to be pretty popular ;)
2) Multiple NAS entries. I actually have 2 NAS that I would like to connect to and changing the IP is cumbersome. Having a simple list would be great!
3) Background application functionality. With the upcoming iPhone OS4.0 update, you can actually have certain apps run in the background. Would love to see the functionality built into the DS Audio app.

Thanks!!!

Greetings CDot:
For the second point you mentioned, DS audio did remember the DS you have visited. Have you noticed there is a blue arrow icon on the right side of hostname field ? Tap it and you will find a list of DS you have logined before and a list of DS available on the LAN.

Hopes this information help

martinsoe wrote:Just gotten the app to work on my iphone and it's a work of art :)

however, i can only get it to work over wifi..
On the 3G network, it can't connect. Is there anything there should be done on the router or on the NAS?
Keeps telling me that the network is not available, or something like that.

im using a dynamic dns and as i said, wifi is working locally and at work. And i have forwarded port 5000 to point at my NAS

thx in advance :)

3g or wi-fi not on your home network is not working Becuase............ The Management UI of Synology Product uses port 5000 - NOT the DS Audio/Photo iphone Apps !!!

if you want to use the Iphone Apps on 3G or external Wi-Fi from your home you need to Forward port 80 in your router setting to Synology IP !!

now when you have done that you will find your Apps work perfectly :-)

Check out http://www.synology.com/support/faq_show.php?q_id=233 for the Correct Port forwarding info :)

OK I am quite new to the server and router configurations. I have always been fortunate enough to only need to plug and play. I now have a no-ip account and it is working great in that when I direct my browser to the information I have, it sends me to my router page. I have then attempted to set my port forwarding both public and private to port 5000 and I receive a "Network is not available" message. I tried to set the public to 80 and the private to 5000 and it got me into my server log in page but hung once I loaded the user and password. What am I doing wrong here and once I get past getting into the server will it work on the DS Audio app on my 3G?

A step by step in simple understandable English would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Please update the application to utilize the background audio API for iOS.

Hi,

I do have also a comment on further improvements of this great app:

  • Please add/create support for iPads
  • Add option to play music from NAS over USB output/or media renderer (not just streaming to devices)

With this functionality it would be a killer remote app to easily choose & navigate & play music from NAS to home Hi-Fi. I do this now through web interface on my iPad but due to Java limitations its cumbersome.

Thank you,
R.

Maybe it's something I do wrong, but it seems that the DS doesn't transcode files when using the ipod app. I have the DS filled with FLAC files, and they doesn't play on the ipod, but plays on the PS3 as waves. From what I know the ipod supports playing waves.

kind regards

No! That is your internal IP address. If you want to access over 3G, meaning you are on a public network of your provider, you need to enter your External IP address and port number which you forwarded to your local NAS. Then it will work, it will never work on your 192.... address over 3G.

Heeeeelpppp :( :(

I just cannot connect to my DS with DS audio on Iphone. These are the steps I did so far:
1.Firmware to 2.3 updated and AudioStaion is activated
2.Registered under Two-DNS for a fix external IP address.
3.Set the proper values in the Management UI of my Synology: DDNS= Status Normal; Gateway shows the internal and external IP addresses. If I go to myname.synology-ds.de I access to my router.
5.Network configuration on Synology Management UI (here I’m not sure what to do). Should I check on LAN settings: get network configuration automatically (DHCP) or manual configuration?
6. I set my router to forward all needed ports to the internal address (port table porvided by synology)
8. On my DS audio (Iphone) I type in the IP field the external IP; Account: the name of my router (ok? or the name of the DS?) and password: the password of my router (ok?)
9. got the message “The network is now not available”.
Thanks a loooot for you hints and tips.
