USB Disc not found

Postby portal » Sat Mar 15, 2008 1:54 am

After upgrading my Synology 207+ to the latest firmware, Synology can't find the attached USB 2.0 HDD. I have attached another USB disc, and Synology can find this disc. I have restarted the system, connected and disconnected the drive. No change.
I use this disc for local backup, so therefore starting to get a bit nervous. Any suggestions? Please help.

The disc format is ext3 (native).

It may be totally unrelated, but for a feature request (full access to external USB drives (not just a mandatory USBShare folder)) Synology Support yesterday connected remotely to my DS207+ running the latest beta and told me there was a technical issue with mounting my WD USB2 drives; which engineering will look into.

Ditto.

Performed last backup to USB drive a couple weeks ago when using 517. Used native format.

Updated firmware to 571, and now 590. Did not attempt backup when using 571. With 590 I tried 'Local backup' and for about 45 minutes had message "The disk is not ready for backing up now. Please wait'" and Disk Status = "Initiating". During the 45 minutes LEDs on the DS and USB drive kept flashing intermittently.

Then it gave me the message "Backup can only proceed with a backup disk connected. Please make sure a disk is attached and is formatted for backup purposes." and Disk Status = "Off-line"

I powered off and on the USB drive.

Returning to Local Backup, I have the same disk status = off-line message. When I go to USB Disk section I see 'USB Disk 1' folder=not shared, file type=not supported, Used/Total size= 0/0. In the last column it says Status = Normal (haha!).

Have I lost this drive and backed up data?

before I updated to the final 2.0 - 0590, I used the beta release.

When I plugged in my externat Harddrive, a folder was created... ( usbshare ) I could see and explore the folder in filestation, but now nothing happens when I plug in the external drive... ! ! !

I can see the drive in management under USB disk... but can not find and explorer it in filestation ???

Greetings all

I have submitted this thread for our engineering department for review, I don't believe that your data is missing (use a Linux machine or a Windows machine with explorer2fs to view ext3 files if you wish to be sure)

However, you may wish to contact online support (sig link) if you need to access your data.

I installed the latest firmware, but I still have problems with Synology DS207+ finding any USB discs (both native and FAT format).
