Multiple Raids(1) on one Synology and Hibernation

Postby Jeffspears » Sun Apr 15, 2012 5:37 pm

Okay the question is not whether I could make multiple Raids on a synology but if each raid will function separately in shutting down the drives or not.

If I had a Synology 1812 and 4 Raid(1) meaning 8 HDDs, say one has my music/other video and so on,

if I access my Videos on 1 raid would the other 3 Raid(1) HDDs remain in hibernate mode? :)

In my mind is see this as probably, but I would like to know if anyone has experience with it.

I have no experience with that, but there's considerable debate here whether hibernation works at all. I'd sorta doubt it.

Is there any particular reason you're using four RAID 1 instead of one RAID 10?

Nope I am just wondering, say Raid 6 with 5 Drives and Raid 5 with 3 Drives as an example, cause I only need 5 bays for myself and I could offer the last 3 bays for someone else in the family

It's easy enough to give someone else an account with a quota and control access with shared folder permissions, all on one volume.
