Hibernation problem

Postby Velleda » Thu Mar 08, 2012 11:54 pm

I have a DS1511+ with the latest version (3.2) and the hibernation worked fine; upgraded to 4.0.2197 and still was working but now, with the newer version (4.0.2198) it's not working. All the apps from the package center are stopped (as before) and still not working...

Hibernation Issues once again.

Postby Kriskmk » Fri Mar 09, 2012 5:15 am

So after upgrading to the latest DSM 4, my hard drives never sleep at all. It is much worse than before where before the used to keep waking up randomly even though nothing was pinging any requests..

now, the disks don't sleep at all. Whats up synology? and I had submitted a bug with the aliases for audio and download station not reverting to https automatically.. and that didn't get answered either.

Note: Hibernation does not happen even when the LAN is not connected. Hard disks are compatible according to the list. (Hitachi Deskstar 2TB

I'm also having the same issue, installed 3.2 and beta 4.0 hibernation worked fine, then I went through and installed several difffernet services and all of a sudden hibernation stopped working. I put this down to it being beta BUT sadly this isi not the case as official DSM 4.0 does not hibernate either.

Last night I stopped all programs (including DDNS) and turned off all services set the hibernation to a time that I hadn't used before and then rebooted.

But after the reboot and the wait for hibernation still no hibernate.

Synology I love DSM 4.0 I love your products but please sort this out it's really really frustrating having the server on 24/7 and a complete waste of power.

By chance do any of your hard drives fall in this list?
Code: Select all
 <disk model="ST9120821A">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="HTS722020K9SA00">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="ST980811AS">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="MHV2060BH">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="MK6034GSX">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="ST9100824AS">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="HM250JI">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="MK1637GSX">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="ST9100824AS">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="ST9120822AS">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="ST9160821AS">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="WD2500BEVS-75UST0">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="HM250JI">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="WD2500BEVS">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="WD1600BEVT">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="HTS543232L9A300">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="WD1600BEVE">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="MK2546GSX">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="MHV2080BHPL">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="WD1200BEVE">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="HTS543225L9A300">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="WD3200BEVT">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="MK8025GAS">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="ST9200420AS">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="WD3200BEVT">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="HTS543216L9SA00">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="MK4058GSX">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="WD6400BEVT">APM_254</disk>
   <disk model="ST32000542AS">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="ST95005620AS">APM_255</disk>
   <disk model="WD7500BPVT">APM_254</disk>

This was added in DSM 4 and from my understanding a setting of 255 turns off disk hibernation and 254 is the lowest level of hibernation (still a high power setting).

I had similar issues, I just couldn't figure out. I had 3.2 hibernation worked fine. I then tried DSM 4.0 and I wanted to have LMS 7.7 (Logitech Media Server), as the built in Media Server in DSM doesn't do what I want.

I tried and looked for a solution, and I spent weeks searching. so this week, I have done the following

1. I upgraded to the final DSM 4.0
2. REMOVED all the packages that were installed
3. Rebooted the DSM 4.0
4. Re-installed LMS 7.7 and Download station (as those are the one that I use the most)
5. Disable uPnP in LMS 7.7 (including DLNA). I only use SqueezePad to music via Airplay, so don't really need(yet) DLNA.

And voila, this seems to have solved it. Even with LMS 7.7 the harddisks hibernate, where Synology says that this could prevent the harddisks from hibernating. Not sure if this write up is of any use, but if you can remove all packages (of course, if this doesn't screw up any of your configuration or data), it might help.

PS: make sure you post the diagnostic file, so that we can see what is preventing the hibernation.
Cheers, from Belgium, Geert

I also noticed my internal and external HDDs are not hibernating anymore (4.0.2197) :(
Using 3.2 it was working perfectly...

I'm having the same problem. Since I installed DSM 4 my disks are not hibernating at all. Specs: Hitachi 1TB HDS721010CLA332 x 2 - DSM 4.0-2198 - DS210j. Download station is the only app running.
Thanks in advance for any help...

same problems here.
It did hibernate at first though, then I installed SABnzb and sickbeard and started some services that I needed. And now it doesnt hibernate.. so what, we cant use these applications unless we want our disks to go at fullspeed 24/7?
