Hibernation : DS211 not staying in sleep mode

Postby trabala38 » Sat Jun 18, 2011 5:41 pm

Hello all,

I am the recent owner of a Synology DS211 equipped with 2 Seagate Barracuda Green 2Tb (ST2000DL003 officially supported by Synology).

I have activated the "Hibernation" mode and I have come to the conclusion that my NAS does not stay in hibernation mode when there is no activity.

I have activated the debug tool and I disconnected the Ethernet cable from the NAS (moreover, there is no peripheral attached to the NAS).

I made a test for several hours and I noticed that the following line was provoking the "wake-up" of my NAS :
[/var/run/synoaudiod.pid] opened by pid 6054 [u:(avahi-daemon: running [DiskStat), comm:(avahi-daemon)]

Do you know what it is exactly ? It is true that I have the iTunes Server and Audio Station activated but I don't understand why one of these two could command a wake-up of the system when the NAS is not connected to the network...

Is there a way to avoid this behavior ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Re: Hibernation : DS211 not staying in sleep mode

Postby trabala38 » Sun Jun 19, 2011 7:11 pm

While further investigating the NAS logs, I noticed the following commands (cf. logs below) that prevent the NAS to go into Hibernation mode.

==> It seems that a device using the AFP protocol tries to access the NAS every 3 seconds. The problem is that all my computers were shut down (Macs) at that time !

What could be the source of these untimely commands ? How can I identify the "pif 9224" process ?

Thanks in advance for your replies !

Re: Hibernation : DS211 not staying in sleep mode

Hi trabala38,

normaly the "pid" is the process-id. You can identfiy the pid 9224 with the following command.

ps |grep -i 9224

I hope that was the required response.

hello synuser2011,

Thanks a lot for your reply ! Indeed, I can identify the process with your command ! I can even see who is the "owner" of the process ! Perfect !

Regards,

It looks lika I have same problem as you.
I have just bought a DS211j with 2 Seagate barracuda Green 2TB disks.
They never goes to hibernation. They are running all the time.
It looks like you found a solution, but I did not follow on how you did. Can you explain what to do for a newbie?

Thanks
Linus

I found a thread here that I believe will solve the problem. It will take some time before I can verify.
viewtopic.php?f=180&t=39374&p=155621&hilit=convert#p155621

It seems to be the convert process that creates thumbnails. It takes alot of time.

Hi guys

I had the same problem and tried everything I could think of. Even disconnecting the Diskstation from the network didnt help. Diskstation goes into sleep after 10min, but wakes up again between 15 sec - 2min.

It was only after switching off the function to automatically update the time from the internet that it stayed asleep.

Hope this helps someone else!

:D

That's interesting. I wonder if DDNS updates and the heartbeat to a Synology DDNS do the same thing?

In reply to previous post, when DDNS heartbeat is turned on, the DS will NEVER go into hibernation, it has been tested.

I discovered this because my DS was having problem even go into hibernation in the first place. Hope this helps.
