+1 here, it is beyond me how Synology is so inept at the basic. audio on all cams that have audio should be a standard. Other software that has ONE PERSON making it can mange this!!

P.S thanks for deleting my other comment instead of fixing the problem, always the sign of a second rate company.

New DSM 3.2-1955 version yet FOSCAM FI8918 is not updated - same things missing, no PT presets. Bummer!

I have a Synology DS110j (mainly bought for my Sonos system) and I just ordered a Foscam fi8918w. I am not very techie so could someone tell me the benefit of adding this to my Synology vs not using the Synology. From what I understand I can use this without the Synology and still do all the features such as recording, two-way audio, motion detection etc. I will mainly use this to monitor pets so being able to record and do motion detection are not that important to me. Two-way audio is kind of important to me so I hope I can get that to work.

Thanks,
dasv

The way you put it, you don't need Synology. Yet DS has so much more to offer!

What, like more bugs than Windows and dreadful lack of compatibility?

DSM 3.2 - 1955 update: PTZ, Guard, Presets are all available for FI8918W. No audio tough, and I have a feeling it ain't gonna be ever, due to Foscam lack of support for codecs.

Support for FOSCAM FI8918W "like" camera

Postby shomsky » Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:08 pm

Hi,

I bought the below Camera from Dealexteame

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/standalone ... tors-26358

It is mockup of FOSCAM FI8918W, and in fact you can use the same Firmware.

My problem is, I can see the Camera picture fine when I click "test Camera" but in the management tab is says it's disconnected always.

Any ideas?

thanks,
SH

I have a FOSCAM FI8908W clone camera (actually a WANSView NC541/W) which has the same issue. But only on one machine. On my laptop I can see the live view perfectly - from time to time. ;-|
I opend a call at Synology support and they are currently discussing the issue with me.

Mabe you would like to open a call as well. :-)

Cheers. Bruno.

Does anyone else also have the problem that the Foscam FI8918W camera seems to reset / patrol every few days? There is no clear pattern, but the Synology did not use to "play" with my camera with firmware 1944. With firmware 1955 it sometimes just goes for no reason from up-left to down-right (and then to a preset, if defined).

I know the camera is able to pan and tilt, but I want it to look in the exact direction I put it. I never move the camera, but since firmware 1955 (and Synology needs Administrator privileges on the Foscam FI8918W), my DS seems to get orders to "look around". I do not seem able to turn this off. I have not given any patrol/guard orders to Surveillance Station. I would like to order my DS to leave my camera alone!

Should I just break my camera to prevent unwanted panning and tilting? ;-) I have not changed any settings on the Foscam itself. I tried solving it by defining a preset, but I noticed the camera does not always find the exact spot I saved as preset. And I am an exact man, I want the camera in the perfect position, not in "close to the saved position".

I noticed the movement by DS because I have 24/7 motion detection enabled. I get a motion detection alarm about once every 2 to 5 days. It's anoying. Anyone recognize this odd camera behavior?

@dnb
I was just searching for a possible solution to the same problem. I have the Foscam FI8918W camera connected to a DS 712+. I set the FI8918W to Guard via the Guard Wizard in the management tab of the Surveillance Station 5 (I have DSM v.4.0-2198). After a few hours and without a clear pattern, the FI8918W starts to wander to a certain angle and remains there moving just a few inches (or centimeters). Basically the set patterns in the Guard Wizard are gone. I did reset the Guard a few times but the result is the same. I will try to open a ticket with Synology to see if it is something wrong in the Management settings.

Also, as most people complained, there is no audio via the Surveillance Station 5 for the FI8918W.
