I had a lot of trouble installing the firmware in my new DS-107+ yesterday. I searched the forum for similar problems in hope to find the answers I needed, but there were none to be found. So now I am posting this in case anyone in the future is in the same situation.
I just got my new DS-107+, which will replace my old DS-101j. I installed a new harddisk (Samsung 500 GB), connected everything, and powered it up.
Then I loaded the CD and started the installation procedure. Formatting the drive went smooth, but after that, the program failed, saying that the firmware file probably was corrupt. Wery well, accidents can happen. I might have a defective CD, so I downloaded the newest firmware (518) and the newest Assistant. But unfortunately the result was the same. Only the new Assistant now said it in danish
Then I started to search the forums, and soon my Vista machine came under fire. I allowed full access through its firewall; No go. Then I disabled the firewall completely; Still the same problem. Then I finally started an old Win XP machine up. Still it failed in the same way. ARRRGH. It wasn't Vista after all.
And now for the solution:
Finally, in an act of pure desperation, I tried to unplug the lan cable to my old DS-101j, and the 107+ installation went smooth without further problems. So don't have another Synology station on the net while installing a new one.
The two stations should not conflict in any way. They had different names, and separate IP addresses allocated. Synology Assistant detected both, the 101j as operational and the 107+ as not installed, just as should be expected, but still something went wrong.
That was my story. I hope this will help some other poor soul, who finds himself in the same situation as I was in yeasterday.
