DS112J set up problems

Postby cristo » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:29 pm

Hi Guys

First off, this is my first post and i am a complete noob at NAS and everything surround it, so if you are kind enough to offer advice, please do so in the simplest terms and please excuse my noob-ness :D

I tried to set up my DS112J, but it all went pretty wrong, and now I am stuck, I am using a laptop running windows 7, connected via ethernet to my router, with the DS112J connected by ethernet to the router too. I have tested both the cables with other things i use, and they work fine, so have ruled out faulty cables. When first setting it up from out of the box, the DSM would not install. I tried again, and it seemed to work, running DSM 3.2. When i went to create a volume, the "create" button was greyed out and not clickable. It then seemed to crash, so I then tried to update the DSM to 4.0, but it got to about 70% installed and then said it could not complete the download. Intermittently through the above, the status LED was flashing orange. It is now permanently solid orange and the reset button seems to do nothing of any help!

Synology Assistant can find the drive, and the status of the drive in Synology Assistant is showing as "Not Installed".

I have a seagate barracuda 2TB drive, which came with the DS112J and have tried to run the "seatools" diagnostic tool but it was not able to find the drive on the network, so i am unable to tell if it is faulty or not.

When trying to install the diskstation, i get the below message:

"Progress
Hard drive not detected. Please check if the hard drive is well connected to the mother board. If you are performing the installation through wireless network connection, please switch to Ethernet cable connection for both your DiskStation and PC client and try again.
An error occurred during installation. The telnet service of DiskStation is turned on for error determination. Please forward your router to forward port 23 to DiskStation and Contact synology online support"

but i have no idea how to do what it asks me to, and synology support suggest i "run the seatool via USB disk enclosure or sprightly attache the disk to the mainboard to perform the disk scan" but i dont have a USB disk enclosure or know how to do the 2nd method.

Is there anything else you can suggest?

Thanks for helping, and apologies if i have missed anything off.

cheers
