Nuke Everything and Start Again DS1512+

Postby seer » Thu May 24, 2012 7:57 am

Hi

So I have migrated to a new DS1512+ from my 210j .... and after adding 3rd and 4th disks... I would like to switch to SHR from RAID1 of the current migrated volume to maximise the space whilst keeping the simplicity of a single volume. Also I have had some "experimental" software on the past I would like to make sure is completely removed.

This is of course not possible with keeping data etc, so I have now almost backed up all data to another box and am ready to start again.

But then I tried to find some possibility of a factory reset ... So its like new including empty disks etc. I found this http://www.synology.com/support/faq_sho ... u&q_id=348 but it's vague to say the least :)

So to confirm... yes I want to lose allllllll data and reset the firmware etc. Install it like a new box with all the standard shares generated (photo, video etc)

From that FAQ it says I press RESET twice .... and then just reinstall DSM using the assistant.... will this also format data etc or should I destroy those volumes before I do the reset?

The reset will not wipe your data partitions.

If you want go from RAID1 to SHR you just need to delete the RAID1 volume and create an SHR volume.
