I was getting ready to order a DS1212+ but this thread has stopped me - I am glad I saw this post. If you guys get an update on what the cause is - can you update us?

Good luck

Well......as soon as synology decides it wants to answer tech support tickets and forum posts.

Ok, well, they finally emailed. They made sure to note their hours.

"Please also note that our office and support hours are M-F 9AM-5PM PST (Phone support is M-F 9AM-4PM PST)"

Ok. Well, now the DS1512 passed the no disk self test. I had it unplugged for a good 12+ hours. Maybe a whole day. Dunno. Anyhow, it passed that test. I put the drives back in (in the order they came out), and it boots now. I have no idea what happened nor why it is now magically fixed. Unplugging it for about a day fixed the problem?

Hello.

I was seriously considering acquiring a DS1512+ as my SOHO NAS, but I got a little worried after this thread.

Did you have your problems solved? Was it a hardware issue or a software issue?

Could you manage to recover the data stored?

Best regards,
FM

I called their support because I had a few minutes between calls. My email ticket has not yet been answered.

The telephone support said they can issue an RMA, but if I wanted a faster replacement I should contact the retailer (in this case, buy.com) and return the unit to them and get a new one. They said it not only would be faster, but that would mean a brand new unit.

So, I was officially shuffled off to the retailer. I would just return the whole thing and give up on these guys except now all my data is on five drives that's probably only accessible with a Synology NAS. Irritating.

Before I return it, I will let it sit totally unplugged for 12 hours per the post above just in case that cures it. What sucks is not having much of a choice except to get another one to get back at my data.

Same thing here. DS1512+ started to reboot alone when creating new volumes. Now the same blue flashing led. Tried the disks out method, nothing. Reading this post, and others with different products but the same issue creates serious doubts about synology products. I´m going to ask for my money back, i don't thing i´m trusting this products again.

Ok, powered it down, and now it won't boot up again. [Please control your language]! Same blinking light.

So, having it unplugged for 12+ hours fixed the problem? I checked the system logs, nothing at all to indicate anything wrong. I powered it OFF this time, and now it won't boot.

Fail.

While I am glad your unit is working again I would still want to find out the root cause of the blue led. I'd be curious to see what they offer for troubleshooting and or a fix (other than RMA).

Well, no, now it is dead again. Simply shut it down to move it, and now it is doing the blinking blue light thing.

Ok, finally talked to a "support person". Clueless. Says I should contact Amazon to get a replacement.

Totally avoid this company people. No tech support on the weekend, and not even an 800 number for tech support.

Hi all,

I have the exact same issue with my DS1812+.

Setup is 5 x 3TB HDDs on a SHR, single volume. Using DSM 4.0, build 2197 I think.

All HDDs are Western Digital Green 3TB WD30EZRX.

Spent the past week migrating all my data from a non-raided PC to the DS1812+, starting from 2 x 3TB and expanding to 3 x 3TB to finally a 5 x 3TB setup. Each expansion took about 40 hours!

I had RSS feeds and downloads going. Shared folders using ACL and was in the process of setting up MySQL.

Anyway, lost power today while I was away and when I got back and tried turning the DS1812+ back on, all I got was the blinking blue LED power light.

Forced it off (long hold power button), removed the power cable and the HDD bays. Left it for a while and tried putting the cable back in and turning it on without the HDD bays inserted. Still the same thing.

Really frustrating as this is brand new!

I've sent a ticket through. Waiting on response.

If I do have to get a new unit, how do I go about making sure I still have access to all my data?!?!

Hmm, well, mine has been up for 24 hours now and is working fine.......it hasn't been rebooted or shutdown. In fact, it is working pretty damn flawlessly now.
