I have 4 DS209's setup with 2ea. Samsung Spinpoint 1TB hard disks standard config. If I connect the NAS to my WAN with DHCP enabled and the NAS is assigned an IP, default gateway and dns servers I can map to the shared folder using guest account and no password.

However when I setup the NAS with a manual IP address (192.168.1.254) and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 with the gateway and DNS fields blank on a standalone PC connected via a Netgear FS108 10/100 switch I cannot map the drive. The error is stated in the subject (The username or password is invalid. Please try again.) There are no firewall rules setup, Sophos antivirus services are stopped, and Guest has RW privs to the shared folder. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it will not connect.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

Has anyone setup one of these devices within a "closed area" in which I mean an area that processes classified data? It appears that one of the security settings imposed by DSS is causing my connection problem. I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly which one is doing so.

I've figured this out, and for anyone else in my unique situation here is the soloution;

Local Security Settings
Local Policies
Security Options
Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) needs to be disabled before the Windows PC will communicate with the NAS. Once disabled I was eable to login to the shared folder.

Hope my frustration helps someone else.

I'm having a similar issue. Trying to map my drive in my ds110j so that I can see the shared folder in My Computer (using XP home).

I click on map drive in the Synology assistant it asks for a username and password. I've tried every username and password combination that I use at least 3 times. I just keep getting " The account or password is Invalid. Please try again.

I have the exact same problem, it seems to have popped up when I upgraded the DSM to 2.3-1157. Any help appreciated!

Try admin as username, with no password.

I solved it, by disabling the guest account for the share (no access for guest).
