Port forwarding

Postby Jaybuck » Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:42 am

Hi All,

I need help!!!

I am new to the synology range and have never used port forwarding before.

I want to be able to access my CS407 remotely. I have a dynamic IP but it doesnt change very often so want to use the IP for now.

The issue that I have is setting it all up. I have a D Link DIR 825 router which I have opened (I think) ports 80 and 5000 on. See below screen shot.

For some reason when I type my ISP IP address into the web browser followed by :5000 I get nothing.

I would appreciate any help.

You have to try really from outside. Most router are not able to handle "loopback" (enter external IP within LAN) correctly.
Ask a friend to test it.

I am not sure what you mean with " other computer with another IP"? You need to try from another house - location - country - world....

And make sure your cubestation really has IP ...102 (if you dont set it up as fixed IP your router does assign different IP to your CS on each reboot of yiur CS).

If you want you can PM me your IP address and I'l give it a try from my side.

Hi,

What I meant was that I have two braodband providers in my house. One for business and one for personal. I connected to the other one which is not running through the D Link Router to take out the loop back issue you mentioned.

Still no joy.

try

http://your.it.address.number:5000

if you have enabled secure http in the cubestation settings use

https://your.it.address.number:5001

If you need more help, drop me a PM and I'll help you out. I may need access to your router/nas temporarily to help you out. Also you should setup a DYNDNS account and input the details in your NAS. Then if your ISP dynamic IP changes, you'll always be able to access it via

http://jaybuck.dyndns.org:5000

for example.

Hi Spuddy,

Thanks for your help so far.

I have set up a DynDns account with a free domain. It is directed to the IP address for my connection. I have also entered the account details into the DDNS settings on the NAS but still no joy.

I am so frustrated lol

Again:
1st check if all functions work within the LAN.
2nd be sure that your NAS really has the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.103 that you opened/forwarded on your router.

if everything works ok inside your router, it is almost certainly a firewall config issue. turn the synologys ftp server on and forward port 21 to your nas's ip. from an external connection, can you ftp in?

have you ever got port forwarding working on the router? maybe its faulty, in need of new firmware or a hard reset?
