DS410. 3 Flashing lights after DSM upgrade. Help!!!

Postby Avenge » Fri May 18, 2012 3:56 pm

Model: DS410

I just ordered the DS1812+ to upgrade to but haven't yet received it.
My DS410 was working just fine until I just tried to upgrade my DSM from 4.0-2219 to 4.0-2228, I've upgraded my DS many times without incident but this time something went very wrong!!! My DS410 now just automatically goes into this state where the power button is flashing blue and the first 2 disk lights (HDD1 and HDD2) flash orange or yellow.

I've tried restarting it by holding down the power button, nothing happens. I have to pull the power plug to turn it off. I've removed all 4 HDD's and then plugged it back in but all 3 of those lights continue to flash! I've tried turning it on while holding down the reset, but the lights continue to flash. I reinserted all 4 HDD's and powered it back on (lights still flashing!). Tried using synology assistant to see if it could locate it on the LAN and allow me to establish a connection and reset it but it see's nothing!

I'm desperate to get this back up before my DS1812+ comes in so that I can migrate everything to it, otherwise I'm screwed! All of my small business data is on those drives!!!
So let's say worst case scenario is that my DS410 is somehow fried, I know all the info is still on those HDD's so is there a way to get that info to my DS1812+ when it arrives? Is it possible to just put the 4 existing drives from my DS410 into the corresponding HDD slots in the DS1812+?

Any and all help is appreciated!!!

Thanks

Let them flashing! It does a consistency check of your disks. As long as there are disk actrivities dont touch the system. It may take several hours, may be a day or more. Just be patient!

It's been stuck in this flashing light state for almost a week already. It had been in that state for about 24 hours before I had time to do the trouble shooting steps I outlined and when none of those worked I've let it sit there since just flashing. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes in previous DSM updates!
I did get a response from Synology Support who gave me some steps to force mount a spare drive but those steps require a connection through Synology Assistant which I'm unable to establish. They also reassured me that I can indeed migrate my previous drives over to my DS1812+ when that arrives which is somewhat of a comfort I guess but as previously stated my DS1812+ isn't scheduled to arrive until June 8th which means that my business is essentially shutdown until then!!!
No one else have any idea how to get my DS410 up and running? Or why this even happened after a simple DSM update?
I've had this DS410 for over 4 years and never once had a problem with it that I didn't end up solving in a few hours at most. And because of that I've been a huge supporter of Synology and recommended them to anyone and everyone. And I find it ironic that as soon as I decide to upgrade to a DS1812+ my DS410 S#!t5 the bed, why couldn't it at least have waited till my new DS arrived lol! I shouldn't have upgraded the DSM but I've updated the DSM a dozen times over the years and never had an issue like this!

I was just running into the same problem. Before I have been upgrading dsm very often and I only had to wait about 10 minutes.

I checked with Synology Assistant and reinstalled the new Version. Now I have to reinstall all my packages ... I hope, next upgrade will be better again ...
