Audio with hiccups, cuts out DS110j

Has anybody experienced this problem?

My DAC Destroyer from Hotaudio (based on pcm2705) works fine with the DS110j, but every now an then the audio will break up for half a second, may be a couple of times in a row. Does not happen very often, but often enough to be a nuisance, about twice or three times in a whole album. I have reverted to my previous homebrew solution for music playing because of this problem.

I should note that the interruptions happen even with no activity from computers accessing files.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

After some testing, I found that the hiccups in audio only happen with FLAC files, not MP3s. I have not tested any other format. Is this happening to anyone else? Should I open a ticket?

Hello,

I have the same problem with my DS207. I only use FLAC files, I just gave a try with one MP3 file but it is the same result.
I could not see any link between cuts out and information in the ressource monitor.

Is there a way I can have my music correctly played? Or should I use another system to do it?

I can confirm that playing FLAC files via USB mode causes hiccups on the DS411J. MP3 files (320 kbps CBR) don't seem to have this problem. I'm using a HRT Music Streamer II as USB device.

It would be interesting if this was causes by only some FLAC files and/or whether it has something to do with limited (CPU) resources of the disk station.

I've got the same problem with MP3 files (I didn't try FLAC format). The sound does not cut out suddenly, it is more like a quick fade out/fade in.

It occurs regardless of the way the music library is accessed : playback with windows media player, direct streaming from DS to a UPNP player, or direct playback with Audio Station web interface. The DS is not under load.

I don't know how I could further investigate on this issue... Any idea ?

DSM 3.2 has improved a bit on this problem but it is still noticeable. FLAC files still play with occasional interruptions but it is less frequent. This is a rather large shortcoming. As other users have wondered, could it be related to system resources?

I'm a new Synology nas user and very happy of my DS411slim. Like most users I bought my DS mainly for the network storage purpose but I can say I am very surprised by all the stuff that small box is offering

Until yesterday, I played my mp3 music files stored on the nas from my computer through the web browser in streaming mode. This works very well. I have no issue to report.

But yesterday, I received my new V-DACII (Musical Fidelity). I finally bought it even if I was not sure of its fully compatibility with the DS411slim. The V-DAC (version I) is known to be working with nas synology DS410 (source http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... B_Speakers). The main difference between the V-DAC and V-DACII, is the new asynchronous USB port on the V-DACII (equal to V-LINK + V-DAC).

My happiness was very short, because after few minutes of listening, I got the problem you described very well... some couples interruptions in the sound every 2 at 3 minutes. Then I realised I got the exactly same problem one week ago with a very cheaper usb sound adapter included with a more cheaper audio headset...

Last night I tested almost everything to avoid this problem, without success... so I wrote to synology support for help but I don't have an answer for now.

But I currently have a good new, for I am writing this post (and believe me it's taking a very longtime because of my laggy english ) I am listening music on my nas in USB mode without any interruption since now two hours.

I am still not truely sure but I am guessing the issue could come from the volume control button in the web audio station or even with the volume control in DS audio for Android. Both start with volume control button at extrem left. If I do nothing, sound is muted, if I put it at extrem right, audio is unmute (so just normally working). But after few secondes, without reason, the button goes back to initial position at extrem left... the sound is not impacted by this changement anyway for now. When it does happen try don't moving it anymore. I guess by "playing" with the volume control button the issue occurs. It's like if the sound was muted for a couple of half second because of a buggy control volume.

I finally find out where are coming from the hiccups. It's not as I thought because of the volume control button (even if it's always reseting itself).

So the issue is coming because the nas is too warm (internal systemp temp is 51°C and more). I can solve this issue by setting the speed fan control on intermediate speed. In my case this is enough to make the internal temp down to 48°C and to solve the issue.

Finally I am happy to say DS411slim + V-DACII works very well.
