I finally installed Audio Station and it seems to work pretty well. My goal is a Sonos-like experience using the DS to stream to AirPlay devices.

Anyone using Airplay speakers like the 'Philips AD7000W/37 Fidelio SoundAvia Wireless Speaker with AirPlay'? It is about $180 on Amazon.

Also, I understand you cannot stream to multiple AirPlay devices simultaneously. This is a major drawback for whole-house audio.

Is it possible to schedule playback of Audio Station music, streams, or playlists?

a major "game-changer" feature would be to have android/iOS apps called "synology-sync" to install on your already owned devices and build up some sonos-style multiroom system, feed by synology DSM. i dont see the problem at all to realize this technically.

And a control app to start within to control all componets (loudness, track/playlist selection) , just like the sonos.

"that" would change the game, instead of sonos-expensive systems while you already own iDevices.

While "this" is possible with AirFoil/AirFoil Speakers already where you fetch the sound from your DSM with VLC oder other players and push it similtuaneously to your iOS devices.

works fine here with iPhone 3GS, iPod 4gen and local notebook. Well a little delay, but most of the time in sync ;-)

Hi Folks
please confirm this for me before I go out and get a Diskstation.
I copy my itunes archive to the diskstation.
With my PC switched off. Using audiostation, I use my ipad with the DS app to browse my music on the Diskstation & I stream the music from the Diskstation to an airport express connected to my HiFI.
Please confirm that that works without any problems ( as my wife will go nuts as she does not have faith with the technology!).
Will the DS app on my ipad show the album cover ( which I can see in itunes)? or do I have to use another method for to get the album covers to display?
I am not interested in sending to more than 1 room at a time.
Can I use some sort playlist ( either one created in itunes or separate one)?
Thankyou
ccy

So it's locally moved from local HDD to DS , ok and then you open it with "shift pressing hold" in Windows and say "open this itunes library".

DS audio offers the audio from files locally on the DS , but not from the itunes library centralized "moved" to the DS , e.g. MP3s stored in /music Folder(share) are DS-audio-available , DS-freaks correct me but i dont think he's able to access the moved iTunes lib via the ds-audio iOS app...

What you can realize is that you can config the DS to be some iTunes library available inside the network but it's fuc..... slow if you access it via iTunes e.g. network-cable based or wifi , it's not that fast, also it sucks that you cant feed your ipod via the iTunes library the DS will offer, but that's some other topic, correct me if im wrong.

Since a day or 2 I have an option in DS Audio to stream to "multiple airplay devices". If I select it, nothing happens. I would expect a choice of Airplay devices to stream the music to?
Anybody has this function working? Do I need DSM 4.1 (not available in my language yet)?

Same here. Made me very happy until I found out it doesn't work. Does it?

Sounds interesting, i would prefer 3 things:

-DS audio APP to control music/playlist and execute some kind of "job" to play to multiple airplay devices and then be able to quit DS-audio and the playing still continues.

-ability to have DS_audio playing the multiple stream too at same time. so e.g. you have inside your house 3-4 ipod/iphone touch units and be able to select a new song from every device e.g. in first floor you choose madonna to be played on all devices, you go downstairs and choose metallica to be played at next on all devices. so some kind of SONOS system.

-ability to select in AudioStation web interface all the airplay able devices into a group or something to have multiroom possibility.

oh what the hell that would be some killer at all , so we dont have to buy that expensive SONOS stuff (i really like SONOS but i want the DS to manage all this) and if you have airplay devices then you want those as players e.g. you have speakers around your flat/house or amplifiers or e.g. the boxee box which is airplay able .

Yes, it works but only if turned on from Audio Station (browser based).

Have anyone tried to stream FROM the audiostation to 3rd party app called "Airfoil Speakers"?

I have big problems with my DSM 4.1 audiostation. It just wont stream tha audio to airplay comatible devices. The problem seams to be intermittent since it works sometimes.

The network is fine, the receiving apps/devices works fine with other sources.
The airfoil speakers works like a charm with other devices (like ipad or android apps)

Since airfoil speakers is an application running on windows, it has a GUI. in the GUI you can see that the audiostation is acctually streaming the artist info, but no sound.

Anyone with a similar problem?

So I tried to start the audio station using the web browser of the ipad (safari). It still does not work. Does it only work from a PC?

I'm not using Airfoil Speakers, but I'm having the same intermittent audio loss issue with physical AirPlay speakers. Audio Station seems to periodically lose track of AirPlay devices on the network, whether I'm actively streaming or not. Restarting Audio Station doesn't fix this problem, but rebooting the DiskStation does. However, I'm not particularly interested in rebooting the DS every time my music cuts out.

Both Ethernet ports on the DS are wired to a Netgear WNDR3800. The Libratone connects wirelessly (b/g).

I don't have the same problem streaming to the AirPlay speakers via iTunes from one of the household computers.

I tried another Android APP HIFIspeaker , also it doesn't work with Synology, while it works with airfoil from PC :(

I will try later to a Raspberry Pi (XBMC openelec for Video & Wheezy/raspbian Shairport http://trouch.com/2012/08/03/airpi-airp ... raspberry/ )

Tried on Shairport it gives:
Use of uninitialized value in subroutine entry at ./shairport.pl line 637.
avahi daemon terminated or 'avahi-publish-service' binary not found at /shairport.pl line 236.

=> can it be that Synology's implementation is missing something?

Airbubble developper asks:
Synology probably use an Open Source implementation which uses TCP to connect.
AirBubble requires UDP, which is the primary way and supported by most AirPlay senders.

I didn't sniffer, but does someone know?

I 'll probably open a ticket to Synology too
