"You can only stream music to one(1) media renderer at a time."

I would really (really!) like to know if this is in the roadmap for future development.

The power of the nas for me is that I do not have to have any devices switched on. That an iPad (or iPhone) can select more airplay devices at once is cool, but then they have to be switched on all the time, ánd the iPad/Phone itself plays the music (battery..) instead of DS Audio rendering it.

What we really want: is for ds audio to be able to choose several devices at once...why not? That finally ticks all my domotica wish-boxes.

With either the Audio Station web or the DS Audio, I can switch to the family room AirPort Express and start it playing rock, then I (or my wife) can switch to the bedroom AirPort Express and start it playing jazz. I can switch back and forth between them (or we can each control our own) to mute or skip a track. When I get the USB soundcard wired to an amp that feeds speakers in the basement, I'll bet I can do the same with it. These are 802.11n Express extending the Extreme, one on 5 GHz. The music is Apple Lossless. To me, It doesn't get any better than this.

The reason not to do all at once is so you can adjust the volume separately or mute one and not the others.

Good for you (not cynically meant). But not quite what we want though...

It seems you are combining two requests and ticking it off by the latter.

Request nr 1: My request: One can choose to combine multiple outputs with one source (So you can listen to a song throughout all zones at once (walking from living room to kitchen for example). Important thing here: the same output, so the song is at exactly the same point wherever you are.

Request nr 2: Is the one you pointed out. For me not so relevant, as I (most people can who have a multi-zone setup) can already individually adjust volume levels over multiple zones. However, one might advocate that it is really cool if you can do it like apple does: view all the outputs in an app (or within DS Audio) and adjust the output volume individually.

I apologize if it seems I was blowing off your request. I'm just a bit over excited about the capabilities we do have.

Your number one request to be able to play the same thing all over the house simultaneously to all renderers at once is definitely needed. In fact, I just did a feature request for it. I was trying to say I'd prefer having what we do have now to only having one stream to all renderers.

I hadn't thought of it, but being able to choose and adjust volume on a per zone basis from one location would be cool as well. For now, we're just using the volume control at the location.

Again, I'm sorry if my post came off offensively.

Absolutely no offense taken, it's actually very good that together we come to a better smart formulation of our wishes. You talk about having submitted a feature request somewhere. How/where did you do this and would you do this with our combined request(s) as well? I wonder what the experience is with feature requests and synology responses (and status updates) on them. Thanks in advance, Rex

I put it in the Feature Requests and Product Improvement Suggestions sub-form, here.

Honestly, I assumed that's where this thread was, until I just now looked. I go into threads from the "View Unread Posts" link on the home page and not through the forum hierarchy.

I assume there isnt a feature to get airplay working through the audio station web interface? That is have music playing through the web interface and streaming to an Airport express through my home network?

Right this minute, I have six different albums playing from the DiskStation (just for the fun of it). One each to my MacBook Pro, the bedroom AirPort Expresss, the family room AirPort Express, my iPad, my wife's iPod Touch, and also to her MacBook Pro.

What Audio Station won't do is play one album on more than one simultaneously (i.e. in time with each other). I'd love to be able to have an "All" selection for renderers (the AirPort Express are renderers, the computers/iDevices are streamers). Once I get a USB soundcard as another renderer, I'll run music to the basement. But I could also just buy another AirPort Express for down there.

Has anybody been able to airplay from Audio Station to their Boxee Box? It always seems to crash my boxee box or the stream just quits and Audio Station no longer sees my Boxee Box.

I've not tried streaming it to the boxee yet, I'll give it a go and report back.

Being able to output to all renderers would be great and much more use to me that playing different things to different "zones" It means I could walk around the house / garden and hear the same music wherever I go.

Would be great to have the option of playing the same songs through multiple iOS airports simultaneously

same issue here, not working, i had it working once in dsm 3.2 and dsm 4.0 (earlier version), but on latest 4.0 build (latest i mean the one today is the latest) its not working , it shows in media_renderer the "boxee", i choose, click play, it stops and boxee disappears.

strange, perhaps its just not working for the moment i dont think synology talks that often with boxee boys.

another great SONOS-wannabe app is the stuff from "rogue amoebe" , called "airFoil". there you can play synchronized to your clients (airfoil speaker app has to be installed) and sync'ed to iPods/iPad/iPhones with airfoil speakers app also installed, thereÄs some "inapp buy" option of airfoil on iOS devices which allows you to stream between iOS devices, means : you play a sound on iPod and "stream" it directly to iPad/iPhone , e.g. like some remote control ability but it's not playin "sync'ed" i dont think the iOS device is that fast to handle sync'ed playing.

only if you play from PC via the airfoil speakers app (you can hook applications, apps, websites whatever you like) you can play to airfoil speakers enabled iOS devices. so you have your cheap/dirty SONOS alternative ;-)

side question : is there any new version planned regarding boxee OS ? : http://www.boxee.tv/download/relnotes?ver=1.5.1 , last update was months ago.. anyone knows more details?
while boxee says its airplay able they should work quite alongside with the developers.. well apple dont care , they want to sell airportexpress ;)

Hi there,

For completeness and for anybody new scanning this thread, I think it's worth saying that the problem with older Aiport Express units (wireless 'g') has been solved with the advent of DSM4.0.

I've been using DS Audio to play to my older AE units quite happily since I upgraded. There didn't seem to be anything in the release notes though.

I assume this has been fixed for everyone else who had the problem with the older units ?

Next stop "party mode" !

Rgds,
Geoff
