I've found that some artwork will display with DSaudio, and others do not. If the album artwork that was automatically downloaded by iTunes, DSaudio won't display it at all.
If I manually load the artwork into each track (or a set of tracks at once), the artwork does display, both in Genre view (where you can see album covers), and when you are playing a track from the album (in the lower left corner of the screen).
However, if I manually replace the artwork in a track where the artwork was originally automatically downloaded by iTunes, then the album cover is only visible in Genre view. It will not show up in the lower left corner of the screen when playing a song from the album.
Please Synology, see if you can fix this. I'm using Synology DSM 4.0-2219 on a DS210j, on a 1st generation iPad running iOS 5.1. I'm using iTunes v10.6.1.7 on a Windows XP SP3 machine to add artwork. Note that this version of iTunes embeds the artwork in each music file, instead of storing separate .jpg files.
