Missing Shares

Postby pvince » Sat Jan 21, 2012 4:54 am

I had created two shares when I first configured my synology. I was able to use these shares for months without issue. Recently the shares do not show up in File Browser but they still show in the shares config in the control panel. When I try to browse to these shares through my network it throws access denied. I can still use system default shares just fine. My disks did not fill up and the percentage used didnt change (doesnt look like I lost the data). I was able to create a new share with the same permissions and save data in it so I know thats not the issue

Should I re-create the shares? Try to recover the data?

Check that your individual user privileges dont conflict with your group privilieges. Note also that every account is by default part of the <users> account so if you disable <users> access to a folder that then prevents any other account from seeing it. Rather than specifically setting a privilege for the <users> account, uncheck the privilege setting completely and set the privilege at a higher level, ie. the specific account or the group account, eg. admin

Re: Missing Shares

Postby kingswaygroup » Thu Apr 12, 2012 5:39 pm

I am writing to say that I too experienced finding missing shares where a user (one of 28) in a workgroup situation would log onto their PC and find that they only had access to a portion of the shares that were available to them. I know for a fact that no changes happened on the Synology for at least a couple of weeks and I have seen this affect on more than one occasion and with different user accounts. Of 5 available shares 2 would still be connected (HOME and one other) while the others would open up with no files displayed. In the end and this is not definitive, I had to remove all shared access for the particular account in the Synology, remove the mappings in the PC, restart the PC, possibly waiting at least 5 minutes in between, and then reconnect everything. Only one user would lose access to the shares but I cannot understand what caused the situation, how to recover faster, and what is happening that does not allow the connection to continue. One user of 28?
