How to set up user home with...

Postby greenep » Fri Apr 20, 2012 6:54 am

I have a business that has over 100 clients. Each needs their own folder..accomplished by the User Home feature. However, in my setup I do not only want the user to see only his/her own home folders..I also need them to be read only. If I select Read Only under Shared Folder..this makes the rest of the Users folders visible. It DOES take away the privilege to write to the folder though.

So at this point it appears that I can only do one or the other...I can set them up to where they can't see each other's folders but CAN write to their folder... OR...I can allow them to see each others folders but NOT be able to write to them...I need them to not see the others folders and not be able to write to their own..

Ideas??

How do they connect with the DS ??
With FTP under 'security settings' you can check "Change the selected users' root to user home" (Users selected here can access their home folders only while login Synology DiskStation via FTP.), so they will automatically connect to their home folder ...

NAS : DS212j with 2 ST2000DL003 in SHR / DSM 4.2-3211
LAN : Fritz!Box 7170, 4 Devolo, 1 Icidu 200Mbps AV homeplugs, 2 5-port switches
HW : Conceptronic CHD3NET, ACRyan Playon!HD, Eminent EM7075dts, Wii U, PS2

I have them connecting through File Station with port 7000 in their browser. I want File Station to open up automatically, instead of having to click the folder. I'm sure it seems petty, I just don't want a lot of "where do I go..what do I click" questions. I set it up so that when they log in, it will go directly into File Station.

What I'm trying to accomplish is having the website have a login button (which it currently does) and the login button redirect them to the File Station login. I currently use AjaXplorer...but my host doesn't "like" it, so I just purchased the Synology DS212+ to remedy that. When my host contract is up, I plan on moving the website (uses Wordpress) to the box as well.

Aside from the above issue..I'd also like to know how to change the tab label, the File Station logo when a user logs in, and the little File Station logo on the login page. I understand there is no Synology "supported" way to do those things, but they really should give access to change them easily.

Thanks!

Cannot help you with the login problems ...

But the pictures should be easy to find. Just telnet into Linux as root and do :

find / -name *.jpg | more

/usr/syno/synoman/phpsrc/web/images/
/usr/syno/synoman/webman/resources/images/
/usr/syno/synoman/webfm/images/site/

and replace them with your own ?

Thanks!

I don't know if this will work, but have you tried giving the users a quota of zero?
DS 1512+ w/3GB, 5 x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 8.2TB RAID 6, half files/half Time Machine.
Icy Dock MB559U3S-1SB enclosure w/4TB Hitachi UltraStar via USB 3 for files backup
UVERSE to AirPort Extreme + 2 AirPort Express w/speakers. TRENDnet TV-IP312WN camera
CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD Sine Wave UPS
DSM 4.1-2661 w/SSH + SFTP, VPN Server, Syslog Server, Media Server, Mail Server, Mail Station,
Audio Station, Surveillance Station, Photo Station, Web Station - DS Apps on iPad & iPod Touch.

Hi, in DSM 4.0 you can set privileges for "homes" folder to RO. I have tested this privilege for default "users" group and, with this setup I can RW in my home folder and Read only any other folder at \homes\user_name_folder

I am doing the same thing, with a lot less costumers. Here is how i solved it.

* Login as admin to your Synology NAS
* Create user you want and under privileges set No access to everything (this way they can't see anything else except their home folder)
* Under Application Privileges I activated File Station and WebDAV (for DS file app iOS/Android)
* Open file Browser, go to Homes folder, right click properties on the user-folder you want to set read-only, set Owner/Group/Others to read and execute and uncheck write for all of them. Make sure to check the box [Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files]
* Press OK and logout from admin account. Now you can try it via file station.

Now if i can remove the side panels in the file station it would be perfect.
