The file extension .m4p will be added in a future update of our system, I'm still researching into the Metadata indexing....

Franklin,

I certainly hope that the patch will be available, since I bought the Synology CS407e to be my iTunes Server. However, with my data all in Apple Lossless on my Powerbook, importing the data to the server is useless! I hope I don't have to re-import my music, since I have ripped more than 1300 CDs!

Dear Franklin!
It's now more than a month ago, that I sent you the file. From this point onwards was there anything happening, beside your saying that you had handed it over to Mr. Someone?

Sorry for missing your posts
With *.m4p extension added to our system, our system will currently just recognize the file name, but no metadata. However that may change with the upcoming firmware 5xx release; last I read we were still updating the engine to recognize m4p metadata files.

Hi - just to let you know I've joined the club, too. I don't have as many files ripped as ootg by far, but still it's annoying. Some of the .m4p have been created by Nero, most however through iTunes.

I'll continue with AAC because of it's advantages - hoping for a fix in a future firmware for my DS107+. Can't be too difficult to read that meta-data - or can it?

Same problem here

Postby kiyyto » Tue Oct 30, 2007 5:47 am

I have the same problem and was told recently that the issue would be addressed in Q1 of 08.

I understand your aggravation as the two things I bought the DS 107+ for currently do not work (well.)

iTunes will stream, but no metadata except for the title.

Off topic: hopefully the download redirector will be fixed as well...
Downloading of torrents is super duper slow and often disconnected.

Hasn't this machine been out for awhile?
I sure hope they fix this stuff.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm also looking forward to mp4 support, but on the end of video/audio support. With it's small file size, it should work nicely with the PhotoStations flash videos.

Just tried it, and almost the same lack of info appearing in the iTunes server: I get only title but also album name, no artist or music genre. I have mainly AAC files, some of them bought but mostly reencoded from my CDs, and very few MP3 files (only 11 albums out of 159 in my iTunes database).

I use a Synology DS207 with firmware 514.

bumping this thread......just to join the group of followers. Most of my music in iTunes is lacking some of the metadata (including artist).

Please patch this:-)

No Going Back

Postby ootg » Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:18 pm

Considering that I have over 20000 songs encoded using Apple Lossless in m4a format, I am not going to re-encode my CDs! I really am hoping for a patch, since I bought the CS-407e for this very reason, the iTunes server!

FW518 - are we there yet?

Postby kiyyto » Mon Nov 26, 2007 8:01 pm

I'm assuming that the newest 5xx series firmware did not fix this issue as it was not in the release notes (and I haven't seen any changes in streaming media.)

Can we get a more detailed explanation of why this is happening?
It surely cannot be that complicated, 3rd party software vendors offer solutions on the DS and other manufacturer's of NAS's already have it figured out.

If you guys are so busy then let some other people take a look at it...

At the very least we should have a target date for when this issue will be resolved, Q1 of 08 is too broad. This isn't a new feature request, this (along with the DL station) are features that sold this product, features that currently do not work as advertised.

Please take the broken features of the DS series seriously and provide real target dates for fixes. It is not just the iTunes server functionality that is broken.

On topic, Synology shouldn't advertise a product as an iTunes server but not support the format that the iTunes store sells digital music in.
DRM is one thing, but iTunes doesn't sell DRM anymore so it really shouldn't have an impact.

Another month goes by..
...starting to lose patience here.

I totally agree with kiyyto, since I bought the NAS specifically for the iTunes server. Now, I have to settle with a "broken" system, with no clear fix date. :(

Frustrated? You bet I am! :(
