[announce] optware/syno-x07 xsh from nslu2-linux

Postby bzhou » Sat Jun 28, 2008 11:08 pm

... is available in the feed. (xsh stands for self-extracting shell script, this is the script you want to run to setup ipkg).

At the time of writing, the URL is
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/syno-x07/cross/unstable/syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-3_arm.xsh

The differences to existing optware bootstrap scripts are:

1) All the source code for building this xsh is available in optware svn;
2) Using the generalized make/optware-bootstrap.mk means improvement on one optware target will benefit another;
3) For syno-x07 specifically, this bootstrap deals with the lack of md5sum in /bin/busybox.

Please test. Feedback welcome.

To use, you need to get command line root access first, download and transfer .xsh to your public share. Then,
Code: Select all
cd /volume1/public
sh syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-3_arm.sh

Cheers,

Hi Bzhou,

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

You said that the source code for the xsh file is available in optware svn, but where is that exactly?

I tried looking in http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa ... /unstable/ but can only find the .xsh file itself. I tried looking in the svn_1.5.0-4_arm.ipk file but I think thta is for installation on subversion?

Sorry, but I dont know where/what optware svn is. Could you provide a link please?

Thank you Bzhou.

Hi Bzhou,

Thank you for those. I am thinking of updating the wiki page http://www.synology.com/wiki/index.php/ ... #Bootstrap with this botstrap as I like that users can see the source (even if they/I don't know how to read it).

However before I replace the Buechse bootstrap link (which I used on my DS207+ and CS407) with yours I guess we need people to test it. I would offer to test it but I don't want to undo the many packages I have already installed.

What do you think?

I've tested on a ds-107+ and a ds-207+.

You can also test it even though you have optware setup already, probably:

1. ipkg list_installed > save-somewhere.txt
2. stop any optware running programs (even things like openssh)
3. umount /opt if that's what you're using
4. mv /volume1/.optware /volume1/.optware.bak # adjust path if different
5. telnet in as root, test the new bootstrap
6. ipkg install `awk '{print $1} save-somewhere.txt` # if you decide to keep and use the new bootstrap

Test feedback welcome.
