reboot not working after install bash

Postby dennism » Sat Mar 10, 2012 9:28 pm

After i installed bash with ipkg install bash and i edited /etc/passwd to activate the shell for the user root (/opt/bin/bash) (which works as i can ssh into a bash shell)

The reboot command stopped working, somewhere in the reboot process it hangs. whenever i use the reboot command in a ssh shell the command seems to start but the unit wont reboot. However it does something as i can't make new SSH sessions and the webinterface wont load also.

after a hard reboot with the powerbutton the unit starts good again and i can login again.

Unit used: DS411+II with DSM4 2198

Anyone with a tip that might solve the problem?

opt base process is most probably still in use after the command

What you should do for both solution, do not edit the /etc/passwd (set it back to /bin/ash), then (pick one)

1) and when connected, just type "bash" to have your bash shell
2) edit your .profile to start bash on session opening
