Re: Downgrade Firmware

Postby mevnet » Sun May 27, 2012 12:40 pm

hi there, I have a DS212 and with the upgrade to 4.0 I have lost the write cache for both my hard drives and 15 to 30% speed transfer, with no other benefit. I would appreciate the help to downgrade to the latest 3.2 version ( I believe it was DSM3.2-1955)
Currently I am running DSM 4.0-2228.
thank you

Hi,
I have a DS410 running the latest 4.0-2228.
Is there a way to downgrade this to DSM 3.2 as I'm experiencing iSCSI issues with the latest firmware?

Best regards.

It seems like the newest firmwire do not support my Trendnet TV ip312 camera:(
It only supports the 2,3 version. Is there a way to downgrade?

downgrade from 2233 to 2228

Postby Foxman50 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 7:39 pm

is it possible to downgrade my DS212j from 2233 back to 2228. Updated last night now my 192/24 flac files are stuttering. I thought 2228 was slow but this is ridiculous.
Can i just reload the 2228.pat file back in??

Also the 212j is solely used as a music server, do i need any services running. Ive disabled mac and printer but do i need windows service?

Depends on how you connect to your DS, if you only uses DNLA devices, then yes, but if you use other protocols then I would enable the windows services.

Need help on downgrading DSM to 3.2-1955

Postby Vaako » Thu Jul 19, 2012 2:50 am

Hi,

I'm about to downgrade my DS1511+ from 4.1-2567 to DSM 3.2-1955

I have follow the 8 steps procedure but the downgrade did not work.

This is what I have change in "./etc.defaults/VERSION" to upgrade to 1955
Code: Select all
majorversion="3"
minorversion="2"
buildphase="0"
buildnumber="1944"
builddate="2011/10/24"
unique="synology_x86_1511+"
extractsize=430060

The Update Progress window shows:
Analyzing: 100%
Updating Programs: 80%
Updating Configurations: 0%
The progress bar shows: 60%

And it seems to stuck there because nothing happens :cry:

Any help on this is welcome!? :wink:

Another option (I think) is to disconnect all HDD's and put an unformatted HDD in the DS1511+ and make a completly new install with Synology Asisstant after that put all HDD's one by one to the system and hopefully it wil be recogniszed correctly.

Here you can see the VERSION file of build: 1944, 1955, 2567:
Code: Select all
majorversion="3"
minorversion="2"
buildphase="0"
buildnumber="1944"
builddate="2011/10/24"
unique="synology_x86_1511+"
extractsize=430060

Code: Select all
majorversion="3"
minorversion="2"
buildphase="0"
buildnumber="1955"
builddate="2011/11/26"
unique="synology_x86_1511+"
extractsize=432264

Code: Select all
majorversion="4"
minorversion="1"
buildphase="0"
buildnumber="2567"
builddate="2012/07/09"
unique="synology_x86_1511+"
extractsize=325664
packageextractsize=0

You can notice the last one has an extra line: packageextractsize=0

Vaako

Here you go. Select the right diskstation
Synology DS-209 | DSM 4.1-2668 | 2 x WD20EARS (RAID1) (Time Backup | PhpMyAdmin | PhpLdapAdmin | PhpPgAdmin | Mailstation 2 | Svn | Directory server | Syslog server)
  • USB Conceptronic CHD3SU | WD20EARS (Ext-4)
Synology DS-209 | DSM 4.2-3202 | 2 x WD5000AAKS (RAID0) (syslog server)
  • USB Conceptronic CHD3NET | WD5000AAVS (Ext-4)
Corruption wears infinite disguises.

I believe if you go to DSM update he search for a NON-BETA release and install that for you.

No need for downloading if you ask me.

May I ask why you want to downgrade????

Re: Downgrade Firmware

I've just tried this, but it doesn't seem to perform the change to the version info on my System Info, and therefore won't let me upgrade, as it's still to an earlier version. Seems like everything's working fine using Terminal on a Mac, but I'm not convinced that the final :wq does anything. Have I got those three characters exactly right?

(Alternatively, is there any news on Synology solving the problem that high res audio no longer works at high res!)
Thanks

I dont understand your post!?

And what has this to do with downgrading firmware?
Contact Synology Customer Support for this or open a new topic on this in the forum.

Re: Downgrade Firmware

Postby pgraber » Sun Sep 23, 2012 10:03 am

Vaako

I'm sorry if part of my last posting was off-topic, but the only reason I have got into the black arts of trying to downgrade firmware is that, after 'upgrading' to firmware 4.0 my otherwise blameless Synology suddenly stopped feeding audio which was at higher than 44.1k, 16 bit at anything higher than that level. Which rather defeated the point of me having it. So, if you will forgive me continuing to be partly off-topic, if anyone could help me with any of these three things, my problem would be solved:-

1 Does the recent firmware to upgrade to 4.1 solve the problem?
2 Are there some audio controls somewhere in control panel which would enable me to switch off the transcoding which is taking place? All I need is FLAC transmitted as is.
3 Failing 1 and 2, a confirmation that :wq is the correct instruction to finish the downgrade bit on Terminal - a PS: I'm now noticing a message back on Terminal saying 'Write failed: Broken pipe"

I realise that I may have to cross-post to get an answer on 1 or 2, but you never know, someone here might know.

Thanks
Paul
