Hi, I have some servers inside my net which is assigned fixed IP-addresses in order to be able to forward ports to them. If I access them using hostname, a Windows-machine do find it, but iMac or Android do not. When I look in the router's DHCP cache, the machines with fixed IP as expected do not show up . I don't know why or how a Windows machine succeed in resolving Name/IP.
If I access my intranet using the VPN package, I can only use IP, not name.
Anyway, I think, I need a local DNS in order to use names (my router do have DNS or static DHCP).
I came across the SYNDNSMASQ package and installed it OK on a DS106J, but now I can not figure out how to update the dnsmasq.conf file (other than using the VI editor, which is really not my cup of tea). FTP is not working.
Can one of you linux/unix guys please advice how to accomplish this task?
