I managed to get it to work but I can't find the answer to one thing that I need to change - I have used my domain (e.g. domain.com) in the .conf file, however when I attempt to access the webpage, send an email it will attempt to resolve locally and believes it is the domain.com - so the question is what and where do I change what is required so I can leave domain.com set in the .conf file and still be able to access email etc from behind the Synology box.

Installed SynDnsmasq on my DS409. It works GREAT! Thanks for the hard work. Would love to see a GUI.

I have the package installed, but I'm struggling with one thing --I want to serve my dhcp clients a custom dns to use (not the local dns server, and not the one they would normally get from my router. Does anyone know the settings to make in the dnsmasq.conf file for this? I can't find an example, and when I try to run "dnsmasq --help," from the synology shell, all I get is "dnsmasq not found," even though I'm in the bin directory where dnsmasq is actually sitting.

Thanks!

Hi Russ,

would you please describe more precise
  • what you want
  • what you did
  • and under what circumstances which problems occur?
So we probably could serve you in a better way...

Btw: Examples are within dnsmasq.conf

I have the package installed on my local network, primarily for use as a dhcp server (rather than a dns server). What I'd like to do is set the dns server the dhcp server serves, as well as the ip address. I can't find the settings to make the dhcp server include the nds server when giving out an ip address.

I think it's option 6, but I'd like to validate that.

I'm not quite shure, if we talk of the same topic...

...I use option 3 as
Code: Select all
dhcp-option=3,yourGatewayIP

or
Code: Select all
dhcp-option=option:router,yourGatewayIP

what means (afaik) the same

That's for the default gateway, I think, not for the dns server the hosts should use (?).

Thanks!

Which package supports the DS411+? It looks like it's running an ATOM processor?

Actually, I can't get this running at all... It looks like syndnsmasq_2.52.004_88f6281 will install, but:

1. When I try to run it from /volume1/@appstore/dnsmasq/bin, it returns:

wh-nas> ls
dnsmasq
wh-nas> dnsmasq
-sh: dnsmasq: not found

2. When I try to more the log under the log directory, it says I don't have rights.
3. When I try to get a DHCP address from on segment, it simply times out.

Since I can't see the log, I don't know what the problem is --whether it's even receiving the request, etc.

Any ideas?

Just got my hands on a DS411+II and am loving it. However I really really would like a DNS server package so I can control internal DNS locally (and fix loop back problems with the external Domain) looking around it seems like a command line option is available but only for the Atom Powered Disk Stations ... is this correct or is a package available now for the Intel machines .. perhaps even a GUI?

Hi, I have some servers inside my net which is assigned fixed IP-addresses in order to be able to forward ports to them. If I access them using hostname, a Windows-machine do find it, but iMac or Android do not. When I look in the router's DHCP cache, the machines with fixed IP as expected do not show up . I don't know why or how a Windows machine succeed in resolving Name/IP.
If I access my intranet using the VPN package, I can only use IP, not name.
Anyway, I think, I need a local DNS in order to use names (my router do have DNS or static DHCP).

I came across the SYNDNSMASQ package and installed it OK on a DS106J, but now I can not figure out how to update the dnsmasq.conf file (other than using the VI editor, which is really not my cup of tea). FTP is not working.

Can one of you linux/unix guys please advice how to accomplish this task? :D

Dnsmasq is great - rock solid and easy to configure. I love it. I mean, I used to love it; now I miss it. I just upgraded my DS211+ to DSM 3.2 and discovered that the dnsmasq package no longer works. The sooner an updated version of the package is available, the better.
