Can't make you one sadly, the CPU is an Intel Atom D525 Dualcore (2C/4T) 1.8GHz x86 Processor.

Since i don't have an X86 unit, I've no knowledge of modding it.

Oh, so bad. BTW, thanks for your kindly assistance.

Can this be done for a DS211+ ? If so that would be awesome. I am considering upgrading to 4.0 but with no easy way to revert back to 3.2 if I am not happy with the upgrade I am not ready to make the jump just yet. Thank you for the consideration.

HOW TO DOWN GRADE DMS

Postby skad » Wed Apr 25, 2012 10:35 pm

I would like to know exact procedure for downgrade of DMS 4.0 to DMS 3.2

I am completly new in modding, I just followe the instructions described by Harry Potter in
his "METOD 1" like this:

1 change the Firmware version stated in the file "/etc.defaults/VERSION" to a number lower than the FW version you want to install
2 Use the Web page management GUI to install the desired Firmware.

when I tried to safe changes by "shift+ZZ" , I was announced that file is read only...
So ... HOW TO DO IT ? please

The reason for down grade is that DMS 4.0 does not stream MKV video files and version 3.2 it does because it has transcoder. I can not understand that higher version it has not. It is confusing ..

ok, after some study I was able to modify /etc.defaults/VERSION but when I tried to re instal DMS 3.2 from "update DMS tool" in DMS control panel DISKSTATION announced that I still have to install DMS 4.0-2219 or newer version...

I've restricted FTP services due to the amount of data taken.

If somebody wants something now, they have to ask rather than click a link.

I've had to do this as it's really killing a lot of bandwidth..

So, Ill do you the 212j, somebody else has asked for the 212j recently but I've had other priorities to deal with.

What firmware version are you using now; and which would you like to return to?

Hi,
Many thanks for your answer.
I have DSM 4.0-2219 and would like to go back to 3.2-1955 please.
My TV does often not see my 212j (upgraded to 4.0 from 3.2 directly after purchase) , contrary to my 210j which has the 3.2-1955 firmware. I have put all my hopes on this downgrade.
Please then disregard my identical request on your golden book.
Many thanks in advance. Your help is very much appreciated.

I'm after DS212 if possible please :)

If you're having bandwidth problems, it might be worth moving them to a (free) DropBox account and sharing the public url?

Postby vkkw » Mon May 07, 2012 1:28 am

Hi all, and Jekyll,

I'm a new NAS user. When I first bought the 411 a couple of months back, everything was working very well and streaming was no problem even for big 1080 files. But suddenly everything becomes choppy, even small files are streaming very choppy. I usually stream to my Egreat R200 and my macbook pro. It's so bad that I can't really watch it especially when it comes to DVD9 rip. Blu-ray rip is almost impossible. Somebody said it was because DSM4.0 tries to re-encode my videos while streaming. Is my problem due to upgrading to DSM4.0? It does appear that the problem occurs right after the upgrade but I can't remember exactly. Hope you can help me out. If it is can you please help me with the roll back? I'm currently using DS411 and would like to roll back from DSM4.0-2219 to the DSM3.2-1955.

Thanks so much in advance. It's been really frustrating not knowing how to solve this problem

Cheers

Actually after doing some research and looking around. I managed to rollback my DSM4.0-2219 to DSM3.2-1955 on my DS411, and all my videos are streaming flawlessly to my macbook pro now. including 40+ gb blu-ray image. I have yet to try it on my Egreat R200 but I'm optimistic.

Here is how I rollback:

First download the .pat file you want from http://usdl.synology.com/download/DiskStation/DSM3.2/1955/

Download the file based on your diskstation model.

I'm Using Macbook Pro, so I use my Terminal to access the diskstation via SSH. But before you could do that,

- Login to your diskstation using admin and go to the control panel. Select Terminal and enable SSH or telnet depending on what you're using.

- also if you did not have a password for admin, put in the password now. If you access via ssh using root but leaving the password blank, you will get permission denied.

Run your Terminal app from utilities.
At the command line, type in: ssh root@yourDiskstationIP
it will then ask you to enter your password. You should then come to something like
Diskstation>
at this point, type in: vi /etc.defaults/VERSION

you will see something like:
majorversion="4"
minorversion="0"
buildphase="0"
buildnumber="2219"
builddate="2012/**/**" (sorry I can't remember the exact date)

press "i" to make changes
change it to
majorversion="3"
minorversion="2"
buildphase="0"
buildnumber="1922"
builddate="2011/09/04"
after that press ESC and save it by typing :wq

This is the version before the 1955. The idea is to change to a version before 1955.

Now log in back into your diskstation as admin, doesn't matter if it still shows DSM 4.0. Go to system info, your DSM should now be DSM3.2-1922.

Go to control panel and click on DSM Update. Select Manual update and select the .pat file you downloaded earlier. and click OK. that's it. Once it's done you should be back to 3.2-1955.

This is for a newbie like myself. To most of you is probably usual stuff. Hopefully someone finds it useful :)

Unfortunately, I now have another problem. After roll back, when I launch my download station, it just kept on loading. Could it be because I have too much download history not cleared up? Is there a way to clear the history via terminal? Thanks in advance for any solution :)

Hi, you might have found a solution by now but I saw a thread which said to stop the running applications so

You'll need to flash 'back' to DSM 4.0
Then in the package center stop the running applications

Then repeat the process to roll-back to DSM 3.2
