I have a Synology DS411, working fine, no complaints! I currently use a Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray player to stream my videos (in .VOB and .TS format) from the Synology to my TV over DNLA. This all works fine, but the Sony DLNA implementation is pretty basic, and doesn't seem to support playlists, rather it will just play through everything in a particular folder in order.
My problem is that I have several of those 'Real Fireplace' videos of burning logs etc in a fireplace - great for a homely feel at Christmas! Each of the videos is 20 minutes long approx. Currently the Sony player will play through them in order, so the fire changes every 20 minutes. I
would like each fire scene to either repeat, or last a lot longer (several hours) but there is no option to do this...
My solution/idea was to put each fire scene video file into a separate folder, and in each folder add multiple symoblic links to the same orignial file, the idea being that any DLNA client would effectively see 10+ copies of the original, and play then in order, making each fire scene last
several hours or more, which is what I want.
So I've found a few posts on these forums about making symbolic links, and making them appear in Samba shares etc, and I've followed the instructions for logging into the shell using SSH and editing the .conf and restarting Samba. I've created the links using ln.
However, despite this, I still cannot see any 'additional files' showing up in the Samba shares when viewed in Vista/7 (I've not tried XP), nor are 'additional files' showing via the DLNA client.
Should what I'm trying to achieve be possible? I notice the other forum posts refer more to symlinking folders rather than individual files. I'm not a complete Linux newbie, but I'm more than a little rusty!
Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated
