ftp access to all files on the DS

Postby invader » Mon Jan 22, 2007 5:22 pm

Hello,

what's the best way to get access to all files of the diskstation?

I thought about two ways
a) modify /etc/ftpusers and allow the user root to login via ftp

b) give the according rights to an existing user...

problem is...
a) when I try to login with the root user the password don't work...and I have no idea why...telnet access is working with no problem

b) I don't know how to do this on a linux machine...I'm a linux newbie ;)

why do I want this?
Because I would like to have an easy way to browse all the files and modify several settings. but first of all I want to see all the files and configurations ...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Flo

well, it's not a ftp access but with the mc installed, accessing all the files is fine though!

telnet as root, use passwd to change password to another one. If you want, change it again back to the original one.

You may ftp in with root, but the ftp home directory is /volume1, not the real <root> directory. Also, root cannot access even public because in GUI you cannot give root permission.

I don't know why root user require permission.
