Fan speed management improvement...

Postby Synologize » Thu Apr 19, 2012 4:52 am

I would really like to see an update in the way fan power management is controlled in DSM 4.0. Three settings of low, low or low is not much of a choice. I'd like to see a MAXIMUM speed where the fans utilize the full 12v of power, a MEDIUM speed around 7v and a LOW speed around 3-5v. Better yet, a slider from 0% - 100% would be even better for maximum flexibility. I know a lot of other users would like to see an improvement in the fan speed options. Please included this in your forth coming upadate.

What I would really like to see is fan control based on highest HD temp with minimum fan speed setting.

Not sure if Synology would want to support users to turn off fans regardless of consequences.
That said, indeed more control would be better, or at least more insight in to why the fans are going at the speed that they are.

(In my case, a virtually silent DS1812 is now considerably noisier while nothing in hardware or software configuration changed, as far as I am aware.)
