Re: Cloud Station requests "BandWidth"

In addition I would like to see more bandwidth control methods:
- add option to toggle between never, automatically sync only on LAN, LAN+WLAN or always
- add manual sync option (for "never")
- detect slow speed links and postpone data sync if file would take more than a configurable time

I motion that.
An option limmiting the used bandwidth like that on Download Station. At the moment I have a congestion on my network if someone copies a complete directory tree..

Cloud Station requests "Sync Documents folder OSX"

Postby TheWheel » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:43 am

It seems to be impossible to sync the 'standard' Documents folder of my Mac's into Cloud Station.
I tried symbolic links on the Documents level and on the levels directly beneath it, but this does not work (the Icon changes from the CloadStation Icon to a "link" Icon and than there is no more syncing :? ).
It is possible to do this with Dropbox so Synology .... (please)

Allow us to choose any folder from our desktops to sync back to DS. SugarSync now has this capability, why can't DS's Cloud Station?

+1, I second that. Should be able to select any folder on the MAC and any folder on the Station.

Shared Folders should be the next thing on CloudStation as this is one of the killing features of dropbox. :-) And please be better as Dropbox by supporting encryption. :-)

Once again ... multiple (selectable) folders would make it sooooo much more productive.
I'm doing encryption over a proxy (using squid) through a SSH tunnel, so that's no priority to me (but still required for every decent sync app!!!)

Ability to sync:
  • any share available on the DS
  • and map it to any path in the File System.

To keep things simple, the default configuration can be to sync /home/CloudStation -> user defined dir, but additional sync locations could be given.

I currently sync 50,000+ files with dropbox. A few things that would make this overtake Drop Box for me and maybe other people (for OSX):

1. Speed - Scrolling through lots of files and directories in finder moves really slow. Im not really sure what CloudStation is doing, but there is no scroll lag in Dropbox.

2. Encryption - Offer some sort of encryption. Sending files plain text is very 2005. Everyone knows about firesheep.

3. Folder Selection - Choose which folders to sync.

4. Growl toggle - Ability to toggle the application in Growl. I synced my 50k+ files and woke up with over 9000 notifications cause it updated every 30-50 files that get uploaded.

That's a good punch list to give to your developers for the OSX version.

Support EZCloud ID reconfiguration in CloudStation client

Postby OgeGOon » Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:46 pm

Hi,

There are several valid reasons IMO to reconfigure the (customized) EZCould ID used as "serverName" in the CloudStation Client.

- When the EZCould is not working anymore due to Synology service down(?) - or internet connection down - as I experienced today.
- When we change our Customized EZCould ID (Ex.: used to be the name of our girlfriend... who has been downgraded to "friend" or worst :)
- When we use an IP instead of the EZCould ID. In such a case, we could have to switch from the IP of our NAS on our LAN to our IP on the WAN, and vise-versa, depending on our location (Ex.: at home or at the office when using a laptop).

It's indeed really annoying to reconfigure the CloudStation Client as we have to delete the local folder used to synchronize with the NAS, then recreate this one empty, etc.. and then wait for a complete re-synchronization of the files... And that can be lot of files, data consuming for mobile devices connected via 3G.

Not all end-users will think about manually updating the serverName in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\CloudStation\conf\client.conf !

What about adding a menu on the Systray icon to change this EzCloud ID and also to automatically prompt the user to change it if it can't be resolved ?

O.

+1 on fixing same user, multiple PCs - I use a desktop and a laptop, often at the same time with RA

+1 on Shared Folder Sync - I hate having to keep all my DS folders that sync inside my home folder. I want to sync down to the PC instead of up to my DS in my home folder. I guess I need a master/client relationship where I can designate an existing folder on my DS to sync to my PCs for a local copy. Along the lines of Offline Files but hopefully not as SLOW and with more control.

A way of automatically updating the client app rather than having to go to the synology site, downloading the newest version of CS and installing.

Ability to sync files over 1 GB for operating systems and file systems that support it, please.

Ability to perform syncs of only the portions of files that have changed. Very useful for virtual disk, database, and financial software type files.

Thank you kindly for your consideration.
