Multi-Accounts on remote computer

Postby derouyag » Sun Apr 01, 2012 8:22 am

Connect more than one DS User Account to the same machine (laptop).

e.g.
1. work id for work files
2. photo id for photo files
3. wife id for well... wife files.

Currently I connect one id to a directory. Then I unlink that directory (work id). Then I link to the photo id, if the photo directory is not empty the system gives an error even though it is designated a cloud folder. I don't want my photos at my work computer. I get the feeling the cloud service needs to be running all the time otherwise the system doesn't know what is in sync.

DS - Accnt1, Accnt2, Accnt3....
---My Work computer - link to only Accnt1
---Personal Laptop computer - link to Accnt1, Accnt2, and Accnt3; additive, but different folders.
---Wife Work Computer - link to Accnt3 and Accnt4; additive.

Default Cloud Folder

Postby derouyag » Sun Apr 01, 2012 8:29 am

Would be nice to default the Cloud Folder.

When asked for the "Folder Path:" now it says: C:\Users\{user}\CloudStation

Would be nice to have a Cloud "options" page that allows us to change this. In my case it would be C:\MyCloud

As per my prior post, I would have individual folders under this one for each DS Account the cloud client is handling.

I know some of these are repeats, but doing so in order to stress them.

1. Choose which folders to sync. This both which folders to sync from the DSM to your local computer, and which folders on the DSM ILO a single "CloudStation" folder only. Personally I think this could be solved in one step, just query the user as to which folders in their home folder to sync with that PC.

2. Change the default path of the PC client to the My Documents folder and not the user folder. I say this because most open/save dialog boxes shortcut directly to My Documents, but takes some navigation to get to the user folder. You can change this during the setup, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to think the location went to My Docs folder.

3. Going along with #2, easily change the location of the local folder in a setting. Pick the new path, CloudStation automatically moves all files to the new folder. This way you don't even have to worry that when you re-link, it will sync the folders correctly or have to D/L everything.

4. Set a file size sync filter. i.e. Files over XXMB will not be sync'd.

5. Save log-in credentials.

6. Create a settings page.

7. Have an option to keep file server from going to sleep if there's active CloudStation connections.

I agree on this one.

I'm coming from a place where I have 3 computers.

2 desktops which I sync everything (one at home one at work) the I have my laptop where I only sync one folder which is a tiny portion of the overall data. It would be nice if I could select which folders to sync.

As of now I have to decide the best way to accomplish this, and it may be using different accounts or something, or just stick with doing something like live mesh for that one computer.

None the less I love my 212j, and would gladly love this feature since it comes with other freeware options out there shouldn't be to hard.

Re: Cloud Station to sync two Synology servers

I'd like to sync two (or more) Synology servers. Is this possible with Cloud Station package? If not, it could be an interesting feature to develop.

Thanks,

Is there a technical reason why there is no 'client' software for a second NAS?

I need a way to let multiple users access one CloudStation folder (which I can specify).

Signing in with one account on different computers does not work because it oscillates between two versions of the folder (i.e. it syncs without stopping, adding and delete the same files).

+1 "choose which folders to sync" I want to cloud my media (photos) but it is currently either (store in clould folder) OR (store in system default folder for media type) - I want both at once

I love the way google drive works. You can upload whatever movie, tvseries you have in different formats to the drive, and when you navigate to the website you can see it in a youtube interface. You can share it by choosing only people who have the link. Would love to see Synology have a such feature.

I second this!!! But it looks like I'm the 1,956,2369th person to do so!

What gives Synology? Mac users are faithful Synology users. I myself have used Synology for 4 or more years, starting out with a DS410, recently updated to a DS1812+, and even despite this I'll be a Synology fan for many years. But Synology seems to not care much for us! First they dropped OSX support for the Download Redirector, and if they even plan on supporting Cloud Station for OSX it's taking FOREVER!!!

Now that the Mac version is out, I have a teeny tiny request: Black & White icon for the task tray!

Right now I've got 6 icons up there but Cloud Station is the only one in color. It looks a bit out of place IMO.

LOL, Just as I decide to open my mouth and complain I find out that it's finally been released! Maybe I should have opened my mouth sooner!

The ability for different synology (cloud) users to share the same folder.

I need it to be able to share documents where write access is taken, limiting other users to a read only copy as long as the document is used.
Right now we have to use a shared user profile, but this doesn't make the file read only when opened by others. This leads to edits being overwritten.

I am using cloud station as a replacement for the vpn server software and network drives.
My problem is that i cannot forward the ip protocol needed for the vpn server in the router provided by my adsl provider.

Cloud station was the answer, but the user access rules for editing files is needed for it to be the solution.

Edit: We can do this with microsoft skydrive, but that is a hazzle and comes with storage cap, cloud drive would really be the way to go.

Allow us to choose any folder from our desktops to sync back to DS. SugarSync now has this capability, why can't DS's Cloud Station?

And can't we do away with the 1GB limit? Why is there a set limit if you have the space and bandwidth on your DS and network respectively?

A full log of all files added/deleted/changed that can be accessed via the cloud station systray icon in Windows itself. Currently it only shows an anemic list of "Recently modified files".
