When will be a new firmware for the ds-106e ?
I'm waiting now 2-3months for it, because the only reason I bought it was downloading with it, but that doesn't work any good.

download station scheduler

Postby earlybird » Wed Jun 13, 2007 8:04 am

Hi

Would be cool to if the scheduler not only could be set to a limited time for downloading. A feature like flaging week days.

e.g. I'd like to download from mondays - fridays, 0:00 - 18:00 and on weekends (saturdays and sundays) only from 2:00 - 8:00. This way my Internet connection is always fully available while I'm at home.

Regards
earlybird

Seeding after downloads

Postby richard » Wed Jun 13, 2007 6:20 pm

I'm going to add to the chorus of people looking for seeding after downloading. Frankly, my CS407e is pretty much useless without it: I bought it to replace a PC server, but without the ability to seed torrents after downloading, it's totally useless because it wrecks my ratios and defeats the whole purpose of Bitorrent; to effectively share files in a distributed fashion.

I'm seriously annoyed about this omission. It's fundamental to how bittorrent works, and whoever designed or approved the download station without it should be ashamed; it's like adding an FTP server, but only allowing files to be uploaded.

I agree with the poster above that seeding of torrents essential is for the usability of the download service. Because this functionality is currently missing, I still have to use my PC to download torrents.

Please add seeding and some options, for example: till a certain amount of data or till a certain amount of time has been seeded.

Thanks!

Seeding

Postby PhilE » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:25 pm

As a new owner of a DS-207, add me to the list of people requesting the seeding ability asap. My ratios are in danger and one of the reasons I bought the 207 was that I could have a low power, always on BT solution.

@Franklin,
Any chance you can update us on what the current thinking at Synology is for this feature? How does the Improvement list and consideration list currently look? How is development coming along and what sort of timeframe can we expect?

I think a lot of people are eagerly awaiting some word on what we can expect. I know personally I would love to see functionality similar to uTorrent so we can forget about the PC.

For me thats:-
DHT
Seeding rules
Encryption
Peer Exchange (PEX)
and ability to handle RSS feeds (I would love my DS to automatically grab my TV shows)

Please share with us

Seeding rules are scheduled to be release around late Q3 or Q4. DHT and Encryption are currently under investigation. We may be running a Beta Program sooner, if you wish to express your interest in joining the Beta program, feel free to look at this link

Download station IP blocking from public list (autoupdate)

Postby Sundude » Sat Jul 07, 2007 1:10 am

Hi
I have just get the CS407e, and i like it very much (i would wish that the fan was bigger (120mm :) and easier 3-party support, but well it works :)

I could really need a feature that could autodown list and block the ip supplied in the list (download station only, or a list to choose (apache, download statiom, ftp.. etc).

As i cannot include url/links(2 posts?), i have put in some spaces hope it is OK.
For reference on windows one could use
phoenixlabs . org
Linux have this (maby there is somthing else?)
moblock.berlios . de

This would make it possible to block out bad bitturrent clients that other p2p users have reportet. One Could also make a list, that only permits one frinds IP, work IP, or whatever ip that only should have access to the bitturrent client, or that you dont want download from (bad data clients, goverment, etc)

lists exists (and that are updates, that have ads sites, goverment IP, P2P(bad clients), spyware IP's. And maby even more..

List can be found at :
peerguardian . sourceforge . net /lists/ads.php
But there maby other lists out there.

Hope this is somthing you consider, or maby someone could make a supported 3-party install guide?

Best Regards

Greetings all-

With respect to seeding rules (Encryption and DHT as well), our engineering department has regretfully informed me that these capabilities have been delayed, and will not be available in the 49x Release.

I will post information as it becomes available, and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

What does that mean i terms of a release date? As many others I bought a synology product just for its DL capabilities...

At this time, unfortunately I cannot release any time table because we are still looking at method to improve the Download station. We are currently looking at a few options, such as upgrading/modifying our current torrent client, however we are looking at using different clients all together

mldonkey is a great torrent downloader for the DS and it supports LOADS of different methods.. so it would be great to use that as the packaged version.. it is possible to use on the DS as others have "modded" it to do so. I dont know the impact of using it for comercial gains but it "WORKS" and so costs should be outweighed by the functionality??

Seeding is a critical feature

Postby okoskimi » Wed Jul 18, 2007 12:48 am

Hi,

Just wanted to add my vote for seeding control as well. I am looking to buy a RAID5 box, and the BT client on CS407e would have made my choice easy, if it weren't for the lack of seeding control. As others have pointed out, Bittorrent is basically useless without seeding control because most communities enforce seeding ratios.
