Home Automation Thread (Z-Wave)

Postby pz1 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:57 am

I started this new thread because it is based on a different technology as the other thread with a name similar to this one. I hope moderators will respect that. I start this thread with two administrative posts for later summarising discussions here.
It is the place to continue a discussion on one of the Feature Request threads.

If you use your Z-stick on you pc, you can easily try to insert it on your syno and try SynoZwave.
I think that It will not erase your configuration.
For the support of the DLC, I'm not sure that it will be supported.
You have to try. If you see on the dashboard 2 modules (one for your duewi and one for yout DLC) it's a good sign.
If you have any problem, we can try to debug it (send me a MP).
I will translate my installation page http://bilil.comuf.com/synozwave for english people.

For the moment, my Zwave network is not so big (only the aeon stick and 2 binary switch). So I cannot test everything I want.
Normally, I will receive an EZMotion this week so I can continue the implementation of the scenario and debug my application.

SynoZwave is borned 1 month ago, so it's possible that there are somes bugs.
I do my best to correct all of them but I'm alone and this project is only a hobby.
Linux, C, C++, php are not my jobs and I'm not a Zwave Expert...

I visited the site you give me. It sounds interresting. I don't know what library they use for the Zwave but if it's OpenZwave and if the project is "opensource".
It's not a big deal to compile it for the Synoboxes (I think).

Kind regards,
Bilil

PS: Sorry for my French-English.

Bilil,

  • Where did you get the drivers for the Aeon stick?
  • I don't think Z-Wave>me is opensource based.

I follow the Synology documentation : http://www.synology.com/support/3rd_par ... hp?lang=us
Page 11, Compile Kernel Modules.

You have to compile kernel modules that support USB and cp210x.

For my application I compiled the following modules :
* cp210x
* ftdi_sio
* pl2303
* usbserial

I translated my documentation page in "english" : http://bilil.comuf.com/synozwave/index-en.html
It might help you if you have a problem

Do I understand correctly that
  • First I have to install the software
  • The Z-stick drivers are being installed/deinstalled with the software?
  • Next I have to insert the USB stick
  • Check that the USB stick has been accepted by the system.

-> Unplug all of your USB devices on your Syno (I never tested with others USB devices on it, it's just to be sure that everything is ok)
-> Install the software. The z-stick drivers are being installed. (If you uninstall the software, I dont remove the drives (not necessary))
-> Reboot your Syno (new modules are launched at startup)
-> Plug the stick
-> Optional : Check if the usb stick has been accepted by the system
-> Open SynoZwave via the menu

The last line does say that cp210x is connected, but the lines before give some "Unknown symbol" warnings.

The only thing I can do after I startup SynoZwave is change the language setting of the interface. All other things give no response.

Hi,

As I see, it seems that your USB is correctly recognize.

Try in your browser (firefox, because it have an interpretor of XML) the following request :
http://<ipsyno>:4020/data=config

If you have an answer, it means that SynoZwave is currently running but there is a problem with the web interface.

If no answer, check the log file of SynoZwave. What did he says?

It doesn't find that address.
The beginning of the logfile in package manager is

This goes on, even after removing the USB stick and putting it back

Have you look at my website? I talk about this problem (part Problems).

I know that I have to improve my spk...

In some cases, it is possible that SynoZwave can not detect your USB Stick. You can check it in the application log. To solve the problem, connect to your Syno via putty.

Run the command "ls /dev/*USB*"
If you have something like "No such file or directory", run this command "mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0"
After that, SynoZwave will recognize your USB Stick.

If after that, it doesn't work. Remove all USB devices from your Syno and restart It.

That last thing did the trick, the log is much more verbose now.

Also the interface reports the Danfoss DLC (as being not supported), and the binary switch, which works when I push the on of buttons. From a generic perspective it is nice that the network I have set up with Zwave>me can be controlled via your net work as well. (Downside is security of course)

Great!
I have to integrate the command into my installation script but I didnt have the time...

OpenZwave generate a config file based on the devices included on your controller.

I'm gonna send you a PM so you can give me somes files to integrate your DLC into the inferface.

Is it safe to update SynoZwave while Z-stick is in use?

Postby pz1 » Thu Jun 07, 2012 10:23 am

I saw this morning there is an update for SynoZwave. As your package also includes drivers for the Aeon Z-stick S2, I wonder if it is safe for me to update while I am actually using the stick right now with "Zwave>Me"
If not, wouldn't it be better to make a separate package for the USB drivers?

The drivers are still the same.
It is not a problem for you to install the new update, I think.
By the way, the update is not necessary for you. I added the support of new devices, that's it.
Synozwave becomes more stable and more complete. I think that in 3 of 4 releases the software will be more generic and more stable.
