I am about to pull the trigger and order a DS411. Initially, I intend to put only two 2TB drives in it, set up w/RAID. (I'm also going to hang an external drive on the DS411 to backup the critical portions of the internal drives.) Eventually, I imagine I will expand into the 3rd or 4th bay -- which is why I am not getting a two bay unit.
My problem is that I cannot decide which HDDs to use internally. I will definitely only purchase drives from Synology's compatibility chart, but which ones?
As with all other products, there are some horror stories, and some success stories. In addition, WD states that they do not support their drives in any RAID other than RAID0 and RAID1.
So, is there any consensus? WD vs Seagate vs Hitachi vs Samsung?
Thanks!
