A "new solution" for the cs-406 or a new Cube Station which will support the Barracuda 750 GB?

Jaguar-

The next generation Cube Station will support the Seagate 750GB and larger drives in the future.

For existing CS406 users, if you wish to use the Seagate 750GB drive, you may do so by purchasing a hardware upgrade for the CS406.

4x750GB Seagate Driver

Postby max » Mon Feb 26, 2007 3:49 pm

Franklin,

I just bought a CS406 with 4x750 seagate driver.

I would like to know what is the "hardware upgrade for the CS406" you mentioned and if needed where I can get it.

Regards

To purchase a 100 watt PSU for the CS406/CS406e, please contact online support and you may make your request there

1) The 100 Watt PSU will be $30 US dollars + shipping/handling
2) First come, first serve policy
3) Supplies are limited and rare
4) This power supply is not guaranteed to run future upcoming HDDs, such as the upcoming Hitachi and Seagate 1TB drives.

there is one thing i did not understand. regarding to technical specifications from seagate, the 500 gb and the 750 gb model have the same values.

it's an old trick of the drive industry to produce onyl one kind of drives and deactivate one or two heads for the smaller capacities. this is the reason, that the drives have the same specifications.

the 500 gb ist listed on synology compatibility list, so why the 750 gb model should need a bigger power supply?

Working

Postby max » Sun Mar 04, 2007 10:55 am

Yesterday I got my CS406 with 4x750GB seagate hard disks (ST3750640AS).

Installed, upgraded (428), made it RAID 0 (2746GB) and start copying my files on it....

The box is now running for at 9 ~ 10 hours... and absolutely no problem.
The max temp of the hard disks never been over 44C.

I will keep you posted.

Will a ST3750640AS 750gb work fine in a DS106 and as an external drive in a caddy plugged in either by E-SATA or usb ?

Our internal testing has discovered that occasionally, 4x750 will consume more energy then what our power supply can provide.
